I'm probably the world's slowest sailor. I have been sailing for about fifteen years and this summer I set sail on my dream journey south or wherever my boat and the wind takes me. On board I have my cat Atris and big aspirations. I like to experiment with cheap solutions for self steering and all things sailing. We got to Gothenburg in the fog. A lot of boats on the AIS and pretty intense.
We had a broken Bluetooth dongle for the battery. So we couldn't monitor the battery status and almost depleted the battery escaping no wind getting to a place to charge. But we made it.
We didn't want to take a big detour and the wind was pretty slow. The boat sailed itself most of the time but we got to a marina in the middle of the night and I had a nap and woke up angry and mean. Alone it would have been at the wind or whatever but sailing with Elona I was not nice. Trying to learn from this. Sailing together is a completely different thing than sailing alone.
We were continuing north. Through Ăresund and then out to pretty rough weather. Turning in to a small sheltered fishing harbor that was our savior.

This took away a week of sailing progress and made me realize it's impossible to go with my boat through Kiel this time of year. Only electric propulsion with motor directly on the shaft is not enough.
I'm a bit behind with the tracks but this was a fast sail in gale force winds. Very splashy.
We tried to go in to flakfort but it was closed for the season with a chain. Dangerous! But we made it to Denmark!

We survived. A broken solar panel was the only casualty. Still in chock. I feel a bit cold even though it's not cold. The boat seems to be fine otherwise. It's a miracle we are well. What happened was that I misread the GPS and AIS. The GPS-position was live and correct while the AIS was delayed with maybe 30 seconds, maybe more maybe less. But all the time it looked like I was going to pass in front of them easily. I should have relied on my eyes more. But when I realized how close we were it was too late. I think I froze for some seconds and then if I were to turn starboard I could easily have rammed it straight on. I had to just go for it trying to pass. Had I not I would be dead. This was all happening after dark. About 19 a clock. The sun sets already 16:10 now. I am sharing this to help others learn about AIS delay and don't make my mistake. I was just going to go by my electric motor but the wind had already picked up. Only one thing to do: sail! 6NM became 11!
From zero wind it picked up during the night and the shallow waters here makes rough waves. Nice to be anchored in calm protected waters now. đ
Hard wind. Hard to find stop. But it worked out. Electric motor slow against hard wind. Sail next time further.
I got somewhere this day. But sailed too far. Got angry at the shifty wind and had to stop.
