Crossing Scrub Cays

Was a little nervous crossing these flats w a 7.5’ draft but it was pretty easy. Shallowest was 10’9” but usually 14 ft. Wind allowed a nice long gennaker sail across

High winds at Little Farmers Cay. Saw winds hitting 35+ last night, not much sleep last night. As you can see, Mojo was dancing all over

They say there are those who have run aground and those who will… Farmers Cay is skinny water.

Easy motor with no wind to leaf Cay. The current was still strong (2 knots) 1 hour before slack exiting Rudder Cut. Rudder Cut Cay was a nice stopover after the Staniel Cay Madness.

With the high winds coming on Tuesday we decided on Farmers Cay for its protection. With my 7.5’ draft it’s pretty skinny, went around in soft sand once.

Sure seems to be getting more crowded as I head further south. I am guess that will change once we get past Georgetown.

All lit up…

With my crew needing to depart early Sat morning from Georgetown, we planned on departing mid morning but with a little front coming in we get out earlier. It caught up with us just as we hit G-town. Winds 14- 18 kts w gusts to 24 kts. Pretty much on the beam the whole way down

Got out of the cut from Georgetown and the wind went out, 4 kts tops. Motored up to Blacks and tucked in behind. A few other boats here, but not too crowded w a foot under the keel (low tide).

Very nice run. Winds from the ESE and 15-24 kts w gust to 28 kts. My crew, Dominik Haak, and I ran 3 on/3 off watches. Our final destination is Georgetown but decided to duck into Calabash Bay so as to not enter Gtown in the dark. Onward tomorrow. Well earned beers tonight!!

Had the wind behind me so I motored until I could get a good angle up to Red hHook. Pulled out the Genoa for a nice little six not sail. Stopped in Red Hook for about 90 minutes where I could grab a few things at the Chandler there and even grab a quick bite to eat. Then off to Charlotte Amalie.

Quiz: Where was I last night

CREW WANTED Friends, I’m currently in the Virgin Islands and am ready to begin my trek back to the US. I would like to sail directly to the Bahamas, perhaps spend a couple of weeks there before heading to Ft Lauderdale. I’m looking for 1 or 2 crew to join me, a little experience would be helpful. This is a ‘no pay’ sail, but will take care of the majority of the food while underway. The boat is a HYLAS 54 that has undergone a major refit.

Making another tour through the BVIs

I’ve been remiss lately in keeping this updated. Arrived Spanishtown, BVI to clear in. Afterwards I headed to Leverick Bay to meet friends. Putted around there for a bit and got some boat chores done (oil changes, water filter changes, etc…). Spent an evening at Manchioneel Bay before heading to Norman Island and the Willie T. Now I’m at Jost for New Years, should be interesting.

Overall, very uneventful. Wind was fluky and all over the place. Very pooped.

CREW Later next week I shall be sailing up to the BVIs and am looking for unpaid crew. Looking at a 15/16 Dec deoarture.

Easy overnighter to St Maarten. Lots of electrical activity so we had quite a show.

Sailing towards wind

There we were on our way to Antigua when we developed mechanical issues. Both bilge pumps pooped out and taking water through the sail locker. After jury rigging another pump we decided to drop into San Juan for repairs before moving on. Crew was fantastic and kept up good spirits

Had a good weather so we headed out to Beaufort to wait for a window to Antigua

Pretty uneventful, waves from the stern which gave a smooth ride. Lots of ships anchored up.

After a little excitement heading out of Annapolis it was a nice little sail to Solomon’s wind, motored the last hr or so. Counted over 10 others boats migrating South.

Took a walk on the Dark Side today…

Started out the morning with just a touch more sail than I should have, left into the wind and shorten up. Once again, I had a lot of company on the way down, many just using their Genoa’s. Pretty bouncy out on the Chesapeake today, was very glad to drop anchor and Deltaville Off to Norfolk in the morning,

Pretty sporty sailing the first couple of days. Hit some really nice top speeds. Decided to anchor up once we came out of the CDE canal and are now anchored up in the south Anchorage in Annapolis.
