Living aboard our yacht and sailing around the breathtaking Haruki Gulf has been nothing short of magical. My hubby, our loyal dog, and I have embraced a lifestyle where every day offers new horizons to explore. The serene waters, stunning coastline, and vibrant marine life surround us as we set sail, enjoying the freedom of the open sea. Whether we’re anchored in a quiet bay or navigating through the Gulf’s beautiful islands, our days are filled with adventure, tranquility, and the joy of shared moments with each other and our furry companion. It’s a dream life, filled with the ebb and flow of the tides, where every sunset feels like a personal masterpiece.
After a lovely day in the sun we conclude our Sunday with a fantastic sail back to the marina. First time that we have sailed all the way back to the marina as the winds were perfect 👌 The Waitemata Harbour it can be challenging when is peak time with many boaties heading back and then you have a container ship leaving the port...our confidence on our skills is growing every nautical miles!
Feels so good to be out on again...waking up with a busy schedule for the weekend but also with the perfect conditions to be out sailing. So we decided to cancel all our appointments and hoist our sail: best choice!!! As per usual living behind the city and spending even one night only anchored up in a bay can fully recharge our batteries, keeps us focused on the final goals and let us appreciate the simple life. Techinally our summer has ended at the beginning of March but the weather is gifting us a really warm start of autumn, with sunsets that turning the sky on fire and chillier nights! Cannot think any better way to spend the weekend if not taking our home for a spin in the gulf!!!
With some bad weather coming upon us this weekend and some rain, we decided to go back a day earlier into the marina. We left Woody Bay with a little break in the sky and hoisted our head sail and motor sailed to try to keep up with a sunny & windy day. We managed to keep up with that for half of our journey. Once we got around Rangitoto Island the winds picked up a bit more so we just motored.
With the low from the islands (mini cyclone) coming down to Aotearoa (NZ) we have decided to head to Rakino before to go back to the marina. We had a fabulous sail: higher winds already than what was forecasted but so much fun. After passing Tiritiri Island we start to have 13kts gusting up to 17/18kts.
After spending one night in Aotea (great barrier) we decided that it is too early in the boating journey of our dog to spend the day next few days there... Unfortunately at the moment there is a ban on anchoring in the whole west and south side of the island due to the invasive seaweed brought in a couple of years ago and with E SE winds the other anchorages where the dog is also allowed on land are off limits. So we took advantage of those winds and head straight to Kawua Island..that it is also the first island that we sailed to last year when we bought the boat.
Motor sailed the whole way, because we wanted t9 ensure to get there with enough time to take our little fury baby on land!! On our way we have saw a whale 🐋 jumping out of the water: first whale ever and even of it was far it was magical
Where we were anchored had no trespassing signs everywhere so we decided to hop in the nearest bay that we know that dog are allowed to let our baby burn some steam, planning on sailing to Great Barrier tomorrow so today is all about the puppy needs.
After a super yatch decided to anchor straight up in the middle of the bay where we were we decided to pick up anchor and find a new spot for the night!!! Went for a little exploring around the islands to find the perfect location!!! Hopefully will stay the only boat anchored up in this bay tonight...
The app crushed or lost GPS a couple of times but we had a fantastic sail: 17kn nort- north east Such a fun day on the water 💙
Drop my tools at work and now I am ready to embrace this 10 day out on the water!!!
Sail through a regatta, absolutely love to live in the city of sail
After few days bounded in the marina due high gusting winds we are finally out again... Unfortunately we couldn't get the sails up as the wind was straight our nose.
A windows of great sailing weather and off we go, for a little day sail in Waitemata Harbour. We initially wanted to anchor in Motuihe Island but it was like going in a mall on a rainy day in winter: way too busy!!! So decided to gybe back to the marina, as per usual we love our time on the water even if it is for only few hours!!!
We were hoping to be able to hoist some sails up but we got all the way through wind on our nose, we the storm approaching and the high chances of high gusting winds at the marina we have choose to motor. Hopefully the storm will blow over quick enough for us to get out on the water again for the weekend.
Our puppy struggled a little with a bit. Of Swell and wind straight behinds us, w3 had only the head sail out to. Don't overpower ourself and put more pressure and stress on her. Overall our little fury baby did well c9nsidering it has been months she didn't been out on the water with us!!!
Today was blissful, the ocean and wind gods where with us gifting one last wonderful day out on the water sailing before to go back in the marina. It feels summer is here and we are ready to enjoy every little second that we will have around the Haruki Gulf. Trying our little but not so little puppy to a life on the water and getting ready for longer passages!!! Really looking forward what the future has in store for us!!
Had a super smooth downwind sail, we were one of the only boat sailing out there and it made it even more magical!!! Heading to the shop to get some grocery and then looking for a nicer and smaller bay, hopefully would be the only yatch anchored.
Weather is turning a bit but had a lovely downwind sail to our next bay!!! loving the unexpected little holiday after the 3 big days of boat maintenance.
Early Friday morning motor to this beautiful bay with only nature around us!!! It was glassy out there bit so worth it!!!
After spending a night anchored up near by the marina here we go: first haul out ever... ..No clue on what we are supposed to do but it is all good... life is a journey and you can just learn from it
Slow start as had little to no wind but decided to go away as much as we could from the coast to catch some of that beautiful afternoon sea breeze!!!Defenetly still need to figure out what I did wrong while tracking the location as we did not hit land twice but head straight to the bay!!! I am absolutely in love with the app and so glad to be back on the water! #harukigulf
Sharing some memories of the last weekend away, it has been so long ago now: with winter and a little leak in our windlass we are focusing to get our boat ready for the season. Hopefully soon we will back on the water.
We are moving to our new berth!!! From the beautiful but not live aboard marina to Bayswater Marina... Let's bring on the new life style
Uploading / importing all the trips done with our boat...
