novice sailor actively learning the ways of the sea ☺️ looking forward to spending time in the sun and water ✨
West bound trip to Musket Cove. Sailed in a not so ideal sustained 35 kts of wind and 9’ seas to make it west before more weather rolls in. Blew the clue out of the main sail which is just a let down really!
I got out of Suva
First mahi in 6 months
Leaving French Polynesia tomorrow!
Had to sprint back to Tahiti to get our hydraulics fixed before leaving for the dangerous middle. Got really lucky ish and the day we had to head back there was zero wind BUT long 12’ rolling seas so it was a quick but uncomfortable trip. In Tahiti was able to get the boom off the boat, the hydraulic furler off the mast, and the hoses out and swapped in 24hrs. Biggest repair I have had to do on Azurite and it went decently well
Strange trip to Raiatea. We left Mo’orea with a perfect 20kts right on our tail and had three hours of really fantastic downwind sailing. When we hit the wall of squallls on the horizon all of the wind just dropped to un-salable levels. We waited for awhile, changed sails, jibed a couple times and finally another squall came with some wind. When reefing down the main, the hydraulic inmast furler began acting up and eventually stopped entirely after we got a reef in. After investigating we discovered a blown hose in the mast. With a tight schedule over the next two weeks with family coming to Bora Bora, we decided to press on with the engine rather than turning back for Tahiti while a plan is made for a repair.
We enjoyed our time in Tahiti and got a healthy amount of boat work done and r&r. Feels good to be back on the road for our last few weeks in French Polynesia
Nice trip to the society’s. Better wind and seas than expected made for a quick trip
A slow sail to Fakarava to catch the 8:45am low tide. Showed up an hour and a half early and got slack tide. Sailed with just a headsail to keep it slow. Saw 30kts of wind when the forecast was supposed to be 16. Very rolly. Caught two ~25lb yellowfins on handlines
We left the Marqueses with a light wind forecast of 3 days. Had a slow start but picked up significant wind day 2. Potentially could have sped up the boat to shave a day off the trip, but to be certain of making the atoll pass on time we ended up slowing down significantly. Turns out Azurite is a hard boat to slow down and even with a deeply reefed main and stay sail we had a really hard to getting under 4kts. Caught a monster yellowfin tuna we estimated to be -150lbs. Happy to be in the Atolls and eating sushi
