Siren turned Sailor. I’m an avid diver, both scuba and free, and have always lived near the water. I learned to sail in the PNW and now sailing the Caribbean. We also have two kitties 🐾

We took our sailing intern sailing for the first time and dusted our poor dirty sails out. We did upwind, downwind, tacking, and even a jibe. She learned the lines and helmed as we enjoyed the lovely scenery of the island coast here. Her favorite part was turning off the engines and the minor tacks. Mine was we had flat seas with 15-20knots of wind. Hopefully next time we’ll have our new jib 🩵
Klein Curaçao is a little island off Curaçao; klein literally means little. We know it’s popular for tourists so visiting was on our bucket list. Finally opted to sail over from another anchorage spot here on island. You do lose island wind protection in-between hence the choppy seas and with the wind right on the nose meant a long motor over. Just means we have some hot water for after snorkeling and diving! Weather: Cloudy with peaking sun Sea State: Choppy seas, pitching and rolling; five second swells 1-2m Wind: 15-20 knots, the usual here Cats: Chill, bit interested in outside once we anchored but then went back to their usual daytime nap spots 🐾 Sea Sickness Notes: Relief Band set at 2, then 3. Tried Primatour, one tablet. Thing was so gross but seemed to work very well.
As our friends know we lost our starboard prop when heading to Bonaire this summer. It took months to replace. Our passage to Curacao started with amazing champagne sailing downwind. Half way wind died down and changed dramatically while seas states radically picked up. Turning on the engines we realized we have no power on my port. Yes we lost the other prop. Previous owners didn’t install them correctly, you need to bend the washer to ensure that the bolt never works out. With only one engine steering was difficult. As we headed up the east side of Curacao, the coast guard helicopter flew by. Reminiscing of when our captain radioed in of engine problems during our entry to Bonaire and they flew by to check on us . But the helicopter was en route just in front of us for another boat. They did a rescue in front of our eyes. Captain called port authority that we were 30 minutes in and they said we were not on the list for us to enter. Eventually they figured it out. We called marine zone of our engine issue. They warned the port authority. As we headed towards the channel, we hear 5 horns from the large cruise ship, they started to embark in front of us. With limited steering and needing to maintain control at full throttle/ 7knts we blaze into the channel as they open the walking bridge. We were able to maintain control to squeeze in. At the marina they had a tug boat to help us moor in. Short story, we will be in Curacao on the hard staying somewhere until we get another propellor. Boat life. 🐾
Nice relaxing sail with a friend. We went around Klein Bonaire so did every sail angle ya can; beam reach, broad reach, run, accidental brief wing to wing, beam reach, and close haul. 1-2ft waves. Winds were 15-18 knots with max 20.0. Max speed was 7.5 knots. Super easy enjoyable sail. No reefs.
