Ruth Pearl
Home is where the anchor drops
We are Nathan & Lindsey, live-aboards on motor vessel Ruth Pearl. We are on a mission to cast off the world’s perception of success and in turn find true fulfillment centered in what is REALLY important in life. This voyage starts now, and we pray it takes us around the world to find peace and real happiness centered in life experience and relationship. We are diligently working to learn together while we share this massive life change with anyone who wants to tag along on our YouTube The 71 Percent. These chronicles have become a passion and we are in hopes that documenting this journey can grow into our new carriers. The lines are cast and our eyes are on the horizon. It is very exciting for both of us having a feeling that a 50 hour run with two overnights feels like no big deal. Nathan: Hey babe, would you be ok if we sent it straight to NYC .. it’s 2 days offshore but we will be there Tuesday Lindsey: Sounds fun let’s send it! I know for many of you reading this you are wondering how a two day was ever a big deal but it was to us. It is making me more excited to continue to build our confidence as we prepare are minds, hearts and bodies for the hopeful Atlantic Crossing! Pulling into the New York harbor also felt like a massive milestone. It brings with it a sense of respect for the ships that sailed into that port over 500 years ago. I have been to NYC a lot but I have never felt the sense of history and reverence as I did pulling in via the Atlantic. Trouble free, smooth trip! Blessed!
I used to own a company in Norfolk so I have visited many times, stayed downtown by the water and looked out at the ships. I also would go run in the mornings by the marinas just in case I could catch a captain with his morning coffee so I could maybe ask questions about his journey. The idea that one day I would be on my own boat transiting through was a distant dream but one I held on to tight. Coming through this area on Ruth Pearl tugged at those emotion strings as I welled up in tears thinking to myself…”wow, we are really doing it”
We were headed to Norfolk when we saw a nice little free dock with power right before the lock… so we said to ourselves.. we should probably stop and make dinner lol. Pretty cool area of the ICW!
Nice cruise up the ICW, really cool to see the houses along the canals. Marina staff was helpful. I can’t say I need to stop here again though… definitely nothing to write home about. And I’m gonna say it.. the prime rib is not good… we are all entitled to our opinions and that’s mine 🫣
Awesome couple days hanging out in this charming little town… but we gotta go! Weather window to grab to send it to the big apple! Lego!
Well that was interesting…. 30knot winds against and outgoing river current. We were burying the nose into waves taking tons of running water down the decks… wowzers Good times! Made it safe and sound to Ocracoke where the little protected harbor is awesome!
After a few days of cleaning the boat, waiting for Amazon packages and meeting up with some Sea People legends!! @logan 🙌🏼 @Caroline it’s time to continue our adventures! Headed North! Lego! Happy 4th Everyone!
Unplanned stop right off the beach at No Name … trip in to Big O’s was pretty cool. We are SUPER excited to explore Green Turtle for the first time!
lol, as the title says a couple beautiful hours to No Name Cay 😂 We were planning to head to Green Turtle but Lindsey wanted a super chill day so we found an anchorage outside No Name Cay for the afternoon / evening. As we journey north I’m starting to get a little sad with each leg as the reality of being back in the states sets in. I don’t want to go back there. Lindsey however is excited because she wants to stock back up on quality food again and health products that we are out of. I’m sure it will be fun.
We spent three nights at Conch Inn Marina which was awesome, can’t say enough about the staff there. Great facility and super helpful people. They let us borrow their Kubota to go to the grocery store and really just went out of their way for us. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Only a couple hour cruise over to Guana before heading to Green Turtle tomorrow. Engine room check midway showed no leaks and everything running flawlessly. Quartering seas challenged my new auto pilot settings as well and it did pretty good. We will see how it does in bigger stuff on our upcoming passage.
Need to change the oil on the mains and the gen before our crossing back to the states so the hardware stores and boat stores in marsh Harbor came in very handy
Meeting new friends!!!
What a party… if we drank it would have been an even bigger one lol!
This is an interesting island. Very much a working island. They figured out how to keep the tourists away by not serving alcohol. Lol
Ok this spot is cool. Very much enjoyed the history and the little town.
