Knocked out a few boat jobs today. Replaced the bilge pump. Same model, Johnson 2200. Not overly impressed with the plastic female threads. They split on the previous one. I think male threads are a better idea on bilge pumps. Decided to get the same because of form factor and ease of replacement. Successfully installed a starboard tank thru hull to lower the diesel return. Suspect the higher return could be causing back pressure on the diesel flow. I’m occasionally getting low rail pressure indicators. Also completed part of a job to raise our fuel tank vents up to about 20” above the waterline. This was a poor engineering choice on my part where following seas could potentially cover the fuel vent and create a vacuum that could also have been contributing to rail pressure issues. On a completely different note. I wrote a plugin for signal k that can monitor a Bluetooth obd2 connector from the engine and pull live sata like rpm, coolant temps, oil pressure. Haven’t released it yet because I’m still testing it for reliability but I’m excited to be able to view the rail pressure in real time in case I get another alert. Tomorrow we fuel up and go about 60 miles from Orange Beach to Destin area. It’s nice slowing the pace a bit but I think we are all ready to watch some scenery go by.
