Wind was cranking today but totally offshore, so we hugged the coast out of Masonboro Inlet, put two reefs in the main, 75% jib and were COOKING! Super gusty, clocked a few at 28kn, and it was so fun feeling the speed increase with each one. Held onto 7.5kn for most of the day. At one point I thought it was finally calming down, so we took more of a rum line away from shore. 6 miles out, turns out it was NOT calming down and the sea state was not as fun out there. Close reached back into flatter water then got back on our course. 17nm from the inlet, we suddenly went from 25kn to 5kn in less than 30 minutes. TYPICAL. Motored to the finish line!
