The first challenge of this passage is leaving Rio Para — you take the outgoing current but the ENE wind funnels into the river bay contrary to the current causing bumpy conditions. Even from Soure this took the better part of the day from 7am to 2pm (44nm). After that, we turn the corner and it is glorious sailing with 2+ knots of favorable current smoothing out the seas. For a day it felt like we were sailing in a lake even though we are flying at 8+knots broad reach. Before we got to the Brazil border the wind died and a massive squall hit with 30kts for 5 hours. Then zero wind again. Classic ITCZ conditions. After that we had very light 10 knot E winds but with current we kept going 6.5kts and made it to Île Salut in 3 nights, faster than expected.
