After five restful weeks at Hatch Haven, our family’s summer cottage, the Loop called us to get moving again. With a few days of favorable weather ahead, we left Cedarville this morning for a day full of personal firsts. It was the first time we’ve ever departed for the winter by boat, pushing out into Lake Huron. We cruised past Mackinac Island, then under the Mackinac Bridge—milestones I’ve seen many times from shore, but never from the helm of my own boat. We wrapped up the day arriving in Charlevoix. I’ve watched the bridge open for others for years and walked the docks of this marina as a visitor countless times. Being on the other side of that experience—waiting for the bridge to lift for us, then tying up in a slip—was surreal. There’s so much happening during a travel day that it’s easy to miss the gravity of these moments in real time. But now, with the boat secured and the engine off, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for where this Loop continues to take us.
