Jun 3, 2025 - Jun 10, 2025
It’s a wrap. We sailed from South Africa into the Chesapeake into 25kts of breeze and sun. It took 38 days at sea and 3 stops along the way, This was the trip of a lifetime. Thanks to Ray, Ballie, Gareth, and Darren for joining and making it possible. Next season we will just putter around the Carib and hang out with friends. For now, a bit of land rest. See y’all on the water in Sept.

Stressful watch

The front didn’t hit as hard as we expected, max sustained was only 35kts and then dropped off a lot. But what a light show!
Sports and sporty

We’re preparing for a sporty night, squalls, 30-35kts of wind. Proactive 2nd reef in and just finished up watching the amazing French open men’s final. The match lasted longer than my watch! We should be past the Chesapeake bridge / tunnel by sunset tomorrow! Champagne will be opened…
Slow

I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a speed junky. But slow days can be fun too. Had to replace our main halyard today, we had a roll of 300ft x 10mm line as spare that came in handy. Just chilling… in the slow lane. Alls good.
Angles
Jun 5, 2025 10:29 PM

We’ve spent the last 32 days with the wind in our backs. As we head up towards the Chesapeake we finally have beamy conditions and can play with sailing the angles. It’s fun to see the boat perform with code + full main with TWS of 10-18kts with AWA of 90-60. It’s a sweet spot and she loves it. We’re going to hit really light air tonight and tomorrow and will likely have to motor. Then get hit with 30-35kts off Hatteras. Darren has been losing lines and lures, we’re still waiting for his magic fish touch to kick in. We wish him luck.
Final leg

It’s a tad surreal that mid April we left from Africa and now we’re a few days out from finishing our 8k mile crossing. I flew home for a few days and came back with a crew swap. Darren joined for his first multi day passage and he’s giddy like a 5 year old with a shopping spree at the candy shop. It’s fun to see and a good reminder of how special it is to be out here. We’ve been at sea for so long that you forget how amazing and a gift it is to be able to make these trips. This last leg should take 7 days, there’s a low pressure brewing over hatteras that we may slow down to avoid, other than that the weather and wind looks good.
