This leg of the journey started in Charleston, South carolina where a very special guest flew in. GRACE IS BACK. woo wooo. she came in to help me fix a few things and to also help me run north some more. I love being solo but man is it soooo much smoother with someone else. I missed having her around!! We had a tough time exiting the harbor but after that it was smooth sailing. Such a great offshore journey. From here we will continue up the rivers for probably another day or 2

Trip Updates

Hello belhaven!

We made it but of course not without something going on.. we were HOT. taking turns going inside to cool off every hour, fans, ice packs all of that. Even a swim with the gators. We were praying for wind.. and well Mother Nature answered with a random squall that popped up as soon as we entered the pamlico river. It was lightning central, and churned up the waters quite a bit. Luckily nothing crazy but added a little flare to the last 1.5 hours of our trip 😅

Hellllooo Beaufort 👋🎣

Good morning Beaufort! Even slowing way down still had us arrive before tide shift so we floated for about 30mins 1 hour and then headed in the channel. Whooo it was bumpy, so many boats leaving the harbour but who can blame them the weather is perfect!! The sunrise was so peaceful and beautiful. We head in for what I’m sure will be a long hot day on the river making our way to the final destination. We are guessing about 3 days up the river. So glad that our offshore journey went so well.

Dolphins and 3 kts! 🐬🐬

Absolutely amazing conditions, it’s so calm and so beautiful. Dolphins came out to play and the sunset really showed off. No green flash tonight tho! We are in fantastic spirits as we head into night 2 offshore. Being disconnected is so nice, and I missed having Grace aboard. Let’s hope tonight is a little calmer than last night.

Extending our journey for safety

Okay change of plans, we are not going to make the inlet before dark or before the current/ tide shift. After reading a couple reviews that advised against trying to enter the harbour against the 1-3 kt current we decided to just slow down. It’s unfortunate to add an extra 8 ish hours to the course but we will take shifts and get enough sleep, and get into the harbour right at sunrise safely.

Good Morning North Carolina! Sadie’s 4th state🐴

Good morning from NC! We are prepping to round Cape Fear.. we have heard a lot of stories and warnings about the NC capes, before we left we double and triple checked weather and feel confident going into it. Luckily we ended up rounding her and it was a non event. Smooth conditions and great wind. So we keep on trucking along. We plan on getting into the next inlet after dark, but it should be well lit.

40 miles off the coast of South Carolina… what is this? Meteor? Satellite? Starlink? Rocket? ALIENS?!?! I saw a big orange what looked like shooting star but was much larger and traveled slower almost like a ball of fire… right before nd during this but it faded within a minute. Weird.

40 miles offshore & GRACE IS BACK 🩵🩵

It’s been a good day of sailing, after the fuel issue we’ve had no other problems 🤞Good wind and light seas. As we have moved into the night the seas picked up and got between 6-8 ft at around 6-10 seconds. Sometimes it felt smooth and others it was very up and down. Waves coming from mostly behind us and sometimes slightly off the port side. The only issue with all of this was our dinghy. Which we had in tow, it got dangerously close a few times so we had to tie a second line to it in the middle of the night. No fish to report but overall it has been a really good day.n

Charleston harbor has it out for me

Left the harbor this morning to miss the afternoon storms… after the other day I do not want to deal with that. Upon leaving the engine died in the middle of the channel. Had to do an impromptu fuel filter change, it was BAD. motor is still running shotty, trying to get out of the harbor and then planning on sailing offshore to Beaufort.

Nice try Mr. Fish

Fish on! And fish off but saved the lure! It was a big ole barracuda 👎 last time I lost my lure to him, but not today!! Only a few more hours to go, I’m making killer time!

Sadie’s third state! Good morning South Carolina! 🌞

Good morning Atlantic Ocean! And South Carolina! Wooo Sadie’s third state! I made it through my first overnight solo. The sunrise was amazing and started peeking around 5 am which was great. There was also an outstanding bright orange moonrise around 2 am. I was flying through the night so looks like I’ll be making it almost 12 hours earlier than expected 🤯 Still out of service range which is eerie but so nice! No starlink 🙌🏼

First solo overnighter 💪

First solo overnighter! I’ve done this once before but had a buddy boat within eye sight the entire time so I felt a lot more comfortable taking naps and he could radio to wake me up. This time I was on edge. I told myself all day that I wasn’t going to sail through the night just in case some winds came through, so I didn’t have to go out on deck in the dark. Well then I convinced myself that I could do it and would be fine. Well bad choice, I had to go out on deck and the seas picked up quite a bit, I was holding onto the boom for dear life. I eventually got the sail down and all was well. I ended up taking mini naps and setting alarms for every 10 mins. I’m dramatic, I know. I’m sure I’ll get more comfortable eventually. There was a lot of action in the wee morning hours, I suppose I was going through some military area so lots of ships and lights that I couldn’t quite make out. But I made it! Not sure that I loved it but loved getting more experience.

DOLPHINS X 10000 🐬

I was out on the bow soaking it all in, officially my first solo overnight multi day trip. Watching the sun go down and felt the wind pick up so I went back to put out the sail and then BOOM. I saw a dolphin, then 5 , 10. I ran back out to the bow and there was probably 30, then 50, and maybe even 100 or more. I am not joking. They completely surrounded the boat and in lines 100 yards off the beam, it was insane. They were jumping and riding the wakes, I played down off the front and watched them eye to eye. They would turn upside down and look right at me, then jump and put on a show. Then I noticed there was Atlantic bottlenose and speckled dolphins! Ive been contemplating this decision to head north, being late in the season and to a place I’ve never been and don’t know anyone but I feel like this was a sign that I’m on the right path. Do yourself a favor and watch all the videos and ignore my screams lol.
