Got a question for you guys and gals! We were leaving Charleston yesterday morning and heading to NC...only to find water in the saildrive oil. We vacuum pumped the oil, and flushed it two more times with fresh oil, but the oil in the casing is still a little bit milky. Not on the dipstick and doesn't seem to be filling with water. We also (thank God) were able to get all the parts needs here today to DIY the project. 1. Knowing there was nowhere to haul out in North Carolina with our boat, we knew the next stop is the Chesapeake area. So we found a place in Charleston that can haul us out next week for $2600 and $350 a day. We heard they are great and allow DIY but were pricy. 2. Next option, we deal with the obvious problem hoping it doesn't get worse, and try to get up to Chesapeake... but where do we haul out? Any ideas for a 50 ft boat, 24 beam and 75 height mass? That have to allow DIY work? 3. Finally, last option we instead sail back down to St. Augustine. The boat yard there is significantly less money and not only allows DIY but you can live on board. So no hotel/motel fees as well. Although that sounds like the best option, that would be literally traveling backwards in the sail plan. Any thoughts and ideas would help!!! We have heard that a little water in the saildrive oil is common and not to worry too much about it now, and we have heard the opposite. Just for reference: the boat is a Privilege 495 and the saildrive is a Volvo-Penta 150 S Any thoughts, ideas and places would be a great help!
