The sea is calling, but Dave Martin isn't tracking right now. Come back later!
Seeker V
Annapolis, MD
Back on the work grind after a few years on the boat. In Annapolis for now.
Decided to rip the bandaid off and make a run for Annapolis. Rough going to start but rolled into Naptown this morning in really smooth conditions. Happy to visit “home” for a few weeks. Now time to give old Seeker a much needed bath.
Crushing miles to get back to the Chesapeake. Chose to go inside from Carolina Beach. Never really liked Beaufort so we kept on cruising to a favorite spot on Adam’s Creek. On to Belhaven tomorrow for some Mexican food and margs!
Seeker was on dawn patrol this morning to catch some current all the way up to Carolina Beach. We were met with steady 25 knots on the Cape Fear river. Festive run up to Snows Cut, sharing the river with some big boats. Happy to hang here on a mooring for a few days and wait for our friends to catch up.
Left our protected anchorage early, headed for Little River Inlet. Passed by a Bob Perry fans place in Myrtle who got a video of Seeker headed north. We had plans to go outside to Cape Fear early AM tomorrow. Made insanely good speed for the 40 miles to the inlet where we wanted to anchor at a favorite spot, Bird Island. We found the anchorage a mess of wind against tide, and thought screw it we’re so early let’s keep going. First turn out of the inlet I cut it a little close, but on an old track we had. Seeker promptly slowed to a stop in the mud. A call to TowBoat had a guy there in 20 minutes. From grounding to back on our way was only 30 minutes. The first time using them, since the only other time we’ve been stuck in 5 years we got towed off a shoal by @cody. Two more hours plugging away against the current to Shallotte Inlet and the hook is down, cold Busch Light in hand. We still might make Carolina Beach tomorrow after all. Fun fact: That average speed includes our time spent on the ground 😂
Ran outside during calm weather to make our miles towards the Chesapeake. Motorsailed a ton to time the inlet and get some more miles done inside while we had the current for it. Time to hunker down for this blow, found a great spot off the Waccamaw. So nice hearing birds instead of the engine!
Left Powell Cay on Sunday morning, made St Aug by 1:30 Tuesday. This was our chillest passage by far. Light conditions. Some great sailing interspersed with some motorsailing. Caught a big Mahi morning of day 2, had poke for dinner. Feels weird arriving somewhere after 300 miles and being well rested and fed instead of totally ragged. Time to seek out some Busch Lights and a Pub Sub.
Left late so we had to keep the pace up with the light AWS.
Lil wing on wing back around point set this afternoon. Tracking seems buttery smooth.
