Mirabai
Golden, CO
Started off on sv Juniper, a beautiful Tayana 42’… a couple of years later made the jump to a performance cat, building sv Mirabai, an Outremer 45, in the South of France. Have always loved getting off the beaten path and usually on the hunt for a good bonfire spot 🔥
Code D for the first couple days (2 reefs in the Main) and the. just a sliver of the jib and we surfed at 18 kts down wave after ginormous wave- it was pretty fun (though a bit bouncy at the end). the cape value was high the entire time, but we never saw rain, just high winds at the end. we were pretty sad to leave Grenada, fantastic island with wonderful people.
We absolutely FLEW back to Charlotte Amelie the other week. 18+ kts, consistently. it was really fun and Really FAST!
We raised the main and set the Code D and didn’t touch either until the wind died almost completely the final bit. Fantastic journey- well above 12+ kts for most of it, hitting 14.2 (sustained) for awhile. Albeit the arrival is to a place i’m not crazy about coming back to, but they have a boat part we needed, so it is what it is. just here for a flash, and then off to St. John and then BVI. all is well aboard the beautiful vessel Mirabai.
new Nets, who dis? not sure what this saga would best be titled: -Free Fallin -no good deed goes unpunished… -Samaritans: how good are they? -Cat’s Cradle on the High Seas -held hostage in Bermuda! long story short, our nets finally made it out of Bermudian Customs purgatory, back to FL, over to CO where we toted them down to Grenada ourselves. Rob did a great job with some patch work that held together for the rest of the season- though new holes continued to develop. sadly the tramps were no longer to be trusted. finally, install day(s) came. with a lot of ingenuity (& upper body strength), we got the task done. the lion’s share was Rob’s doing, but our topping lift gave the last bit of oomph it had in it to assist! we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome, though i still race from one side of the nets to the other; it’ll take a minute to rebuild the trust, lol. as always, Spice Island Marine Services was such an incredible place to execute these projects. we always have the best, most productive time here. cheers to them! and also to Multihull Nets for suppling such a quality product ✨ Hit us up if you want to chat before you do your own install as we found there to be a bit of nuance involved in some places.
