Annapolis, Maryland
Taylor, Alex & baby Isla Mae Sabre 34 Mark II We lived aboard in Annapolis, Maryland and cruised the Chesapeake Bay on the weekends before setting sail in 2020 to head south. We’ve spent the last 4 years cruising the Bahamas in the winter and land cruising in the summer. This year we decided to bring the boat back to the Chesapeake Bay for the summer/fall 2024.
Anchoring out for the long weekend.
Our first cruising home is for S A L E Please share our listing with your fellow pirates and land lubbers who are dreaming of setting sail! She’s ready for the Bahamas! Just needs a new captain! Perfect size for single handing but comfortable for two! She’s a drinks for 6, dinner for 4, and sleeps 2 - cruiser/racer who smokes any boat in her path (Just ask our friends 😉) https://www.boattrader.com/boat/1987-sabre-mark-ii-9614498/
Sporty sail! Rafting up with Nighttown ⛵️
Easy sailing back up to Mill Creek after spending the night on the West River
And now Isla knows where the throttle is 🫣
Motor and a sail up to the Magothy
Escaping the Annapolis Powerboat show chaos! Slow and easy sail over to Meredith Creek. Impromptu meet up with some friends @bri @Erin @chrisjohnson @Jfur
Sail and a motor back to ACM for a few nights at the dock
Changed locations today so that we can get off the boat and have a walk around later :)
Little sail over to the creek for the night
The Bay was much calmer today but the wind was not in our favor. Hoping for some better sailing conditions this week. Anchored off of Kati and Harry’s new place. They just so happen to be hosting a Sabre Club cruising meet up! Also, we have a 9 month old now 🥹
Opted for a shorter trip today. Little rolly sailing - not great for me (seasick). Lots of crab pots coming into the creek.
Really it was a 12+ hr day but I can’t be bothered to fix the tracks (forgot to start and toggle is too busy - so many tracks!)
Quick stop in Coinjock for the night. Had an amazing stay in Manteo with friends @coastalsols @Finding.Cloud
Manteo for a few days to visit @coastalsols and we’re docked right next to @Finding.Cloud ⛵️😊
Short & hot day of motoring. Let’s hope the breeze sticks around the bugs stay away!! Next stop - Manteo, to visit our friends @coastalsols
Treating ourselves to a night at Dowry Creek Marina. POOL 💦 (okay a bigger pool!) AC pumping. on-site restaurant Captains lounge and very nice showers FREEEEEEEE laundry. 🧺 Now this doesn’t matter much to @alexberg who wears board shorts daily and basically washes them when he showers. But for a nursing mom and baby… this is gold. And just in time, because I’m out of underwear and clean tank tops 😂
Excited to check out Carolina Beach! Long day or motoring to get here, but it feels good to be stationary for a few nights.
Lots of interesting sites to see along the way. Deer & Gators! Anchored at a beautiful little beach
Alex must have killed 600 horse flies and we saw one gator 🐊 (zooooom in on pic)
Waiting for the bridge and high tide to get through a few shallow spots… but we’ve arrived at a beautiful, calm, secluded anchorage ⚓️ @alexberg
Calm motor sail up to Charleston. Totally forgot this is a holiday weekend 😫🤦🏼♀️ Grabbed a slip for the night to rinse off, soak up some AC and unlimited power & water (for Isla’s pool).
This was Isla’s first overnight sail. She did great, slept like normal, and only fussed when I wouldn’t let her on deck to help Dad sail. Ever since having Isla, I’ve been getting some sea sickness symptoms when it’s rolly and I’m down below too long. This made for a more than usual miserable 24+ sail across the Gulf Stream for me since I was below deck with Isla most of the time. Alex basically single handed the entire trip. We caught two barracuda (probably the same one ha). Alex slept 10-15 mins at a time overnight. I tried to stay up with him to watch the rocket 🚀 launch but Isla woke up at exactly take off 🤪🤦🏼♀️. We listened to a hilarious radio exchange between the carnival cruise ship and a cargo ship who were both trying to avoid crashing into us but couldn’t quite figure out how not to hit each other. Alex sailed up until 2/3am and then had to start the motor. It’s unfortunate because if we could have just sent it north, it would have been a more comfortable ride. Came in through Cape Canaveral, first time through the lock there. We saw manatee, shark, and an alligator! Captain is finally getting some rest! 7 weeks - shortest Bahamas trip so far 🇧🇸⛵️
Isla got to see 🐬🐬🐬🐬 for the first time! Hanging at Great Sale for a night or two. Probably crossing on Thursday. ⛵️✌🏻🇧🇸o
Headed back to the States 🇺🇸 Easy sailing from Green Turtle to Crab Cay to anchor for the night. Next stop: Great Sale and planning to cross on Wednesday. 🌕 Alex was fed up with sport fishers and decided to moon 2 🛥️of them for speeding too close to us. Unfortunately, I was down below putting Isla down for a nap and missed this entire event. Maybe someone has photo evidence from another boat 🤣🤪
