SeaPeople co-founder 🔱 YCA co-founder 🏴 I bought my first boat, the sv Miss Informed, in 2012. Had planned on the trip to last less than a year. 13 years later I’m still floating around out there, fully addicted to the travel. I’m now cruising on sv Lost. I spend most of my cruising time in the Bahamas now 🇧🇸 but still plan to cross the Pacific in the next couple of years.
The Windward Passage was the right call. Downwind running with the seas and the stops were unexpected beauties. Diving the Bay Islands was a dream. The clarity was on par with the best day in the Bahamas and the reefs were more lively than anything I’ve come across. We spent a few weeks cruising the Bay Islands until the heat finally forced us to the Rio Dulce for air conditioned dockage hah. The engines are loving the freshwater rinse and we’re enjoying it over here so far. Great food, people, and lots of new things to explore before our haul out in June. 🐒 🦥 Hell of a season, @SV_Chief, @camilledegabrielle, and @Erin 🙌. The first day we had to mostly motor through squalls as we rounded Jamaica. About halfway to the west coast, we had our coolant pump bearing fail on us which was pretty fun. Luckily I had hung onto an old one that was starting to weep so the next day we cleaned her up and did our best to make new gaskets to put it all back together. Alas, they did not hold… going to need to spend a little more TLC on this one. The next day the wind filled in and we were able to send it with following seas on and off with main + whomper to sometimes just the ol’ whomp by her lonesome when we had to go directly downwind. We had several groups of swallows visit us along the way. The first guy died in the boat, probably because we didn’t realize he was hunting for water… poor dude. We gave Sheryl (or Shane) a proper burial at sea 🪦. All in all the spinnaker got one hell of a workout and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Stoked to explore this island with our buddy boaters, @SV_Chief and @camilledegabrielle 🥾
Had a great stop in Inagua and now Jamaica. Amazing sailing into lush mountains after months of flat islands. We got our fill of fresh fruit 🍌🥭🍈🥥 🍍. Can’t say enough good things about Port Antonio and the people of Jamaica 🇯🇲 @SV_Chief and the gang are getting ready to head West in a few days. Hurry it up, @SaltySunrise!
The Raggeds did not disappoint… cruised in with buddy boaters @SV_Chief and @camilledegabrielle and were blown away by the amount of fish/ life in general at the reef. The stay was short but we had an extremely tight weather window to get to Great Inagua. Had a great sail to Inagua, never more than 3nm from SV Chief, crazy. That’s while we were both sailing from 6 to 10 kts. We’ll chill here until a window opens up to start our trip through the Windward Passage to Jamaica 🇯🇲
The squad went full-on Deadliest Catch mode with plans of reeling in more fish than a cruising boat has any business catching in a single afternoon. Unfortunately, after blowing the entire budget on Keystone Lights, Bloody Marys, and an irresponsible amount of taco dip, there was nothing left for live bait. Live bait was exactly what these fish demanded. Ketch and Camille pulled out every trick in the book but the fish just weren’t buying it. We didn’t land any monsters out there but a good time was had. Snail trail had the lead to start, Lost lost a tube at the start 🤦♀️ and I had to rip in Cannoli to get it back. About halfway through we managed to pass the snail trail and they never recovered. We have suspicions that they let us win :/. Is that true, snails?! It was pretty sporty out there, today!
