🇦🇺|🇺🇸 27yo Currently sailing up the Brazil coast as a teacher/nanny on a 64ft catamaran. I spend the winters in Australia cruising around the Great Barrier Reef. When I’m not on the boat, I’m traveling and teaching kiddos
4 days, 3 nights sail to Abrolhos (my first night shift experience) where we enjoyed spending time w the Navy and Bird researchers. Lots of masked boobies and frigatebirds. Then a 2 day, 1 night sail to Itacare. Enjoying this coastal town for the next few days.
Had a great sail up the coast of Brazil, since this is against the predominant northeasterly trades, we waited for a cold front (late May) and rode the southerlies. The strategy of leaving a day before the front paid off, motored 18hrs in calm seas, then we were ahead of the front and got mellow rain. Winds blew SW then clocked to SSE so we managed a broad reach the whole way, mostly 15-20kts breeze but blew steady 30kts for nearly 12hrs at one point, we were under 2nd reef main and 1/2 genoa and full power. Lumpy seas but overall great ride. Happy to now be in Abrolhos!
Cruised around Ilha Granda- saw dolphins, enjoyed some sailing, found mermaid caves, and swam at beautiful beaches
Sailed up the coast to the Whitsundays on a home built racing catamaran. Caught a ride w an amazing family that will be participating in Airlie race week. Experienced an island on fire, speed of 17 knots, and the bluest water Australia has to offer
