Jumped ship and now we’re Lost?!

We said goodbye to our beloved Charlotte Elizabeth and hopped aboard Lost to help @bri sail north We sailed only 30% of the time and it’s such a difference compared to a monohull (I think I have been convinced our next boat will have an extra hull). A lot smoother floating over waves, and not living on an angle has its perks. We were alarmed by the crashing of waves in the bridge deck, something I guess you just get used to with catamarans 🤷🏻‍♀️ We rounded Hattaras with no wind and calm seas, even managed to get the black spinnaker out for a little bit. So enjoyable to sit out front and watch the sea all day! Now we’re stopping in Ocean City for the night :) so happy to see horizon sunsets again, it’s been too long

Motoring around Hattaras and an upturned boat

Winds were on the nose, so we motored around Cape Hatteras. Going at a steady 8knots with the Gulf Stream. We found an upturned Boston Whaler with a partial name including ‘Bahamas’, hopefully it just drifted up from a bad storm. Underneath its anchor rode hanging and an aquarium of fish; Mahi Mahi, trigger fish, sharks all circling around To top off the day, a beautiful last offshore sunset 🥰

Trying to find the fastest point in the stream

Seems like we didn’t have the correct coordinates for the fastest points in stream and with the wind being light and variable, we have been dancing along the sides A few squalls kicking about throughout last night and early morning, a couple of rainbows and some motor sailing Apple and peanut butter snacks, a hint of spinnaker sailing and two flying fish. Today has been eventful but in a chill sort of way

Getting slayed by the Gulf Stream

Before leaving we mentally prepared for 24 hours of dog shite with swell of 2m and boy, did it deliver. A quiver of doubt and questioning our life choices, we powered through. The swell seemed to amplify the closer we were to the centre of the Gulf Stream so we headed to the western edge to still get a speed boost but escape the very rough seas in the centre. Conditions have now calmed down and we’re heading back into the centre, and riding along smoothly. Fun fact: we’ve now made it further north than we did last year where we pulled off into Brunswick 💪🏻

Rough last section into Norfolk

After coming out of the Gulf Stream, we had some lovely conditions, sailing 5 knots over glassy water. There was fog all around and the heat from the sun cleared it away like a scene from a movie. It quietened down for a few hours motoring around midday, then the wind filled in suddenly and ferociously. The waves were steep and coming on our beam, the weather gods did not want us to end our last off shore sail without a rollercoaster ride! All being said, we are now anchored and happy with the distance we’ve covered!!

Leaving Bahama waters

Leaving at 5pm yesterday, we sailed downwind with only the headsail along the Abaco banks. A Lovely way to start our potentially 4 day journey, flat seas and clocking 80nm by morning. As we reached the edge of the banks, the waves were small and steep pushing us all around the place. We’re now wing on wing and in the deep blue (bye bye turquoise water 😢) and the predicted 2m swell is not that bad. Heading straight for the Gulf Stream now. Can’t wait for that natural speed boost 🏃🏻‍♀️

Haven’t done an early start in a long while! Waking up at 5am was not fun, but with a 60nm journey.. needs must. Todays sail was leaving Eleuthera to arrive in the Abacos We hoisted our spinnaker a little before sunrise and flew it all day until we needed to turn into Elbow cay and saw the Hope Town lighthouse in the distance! Having to stop here in the Abacos to fill up our propane (no one in Eleuthera could fill our UK tanks) before heading back to the US Looks like we’re going to be here for a little while as the weather window that was on Wednesday has gone now

Sporting trip to Eleuthera with some detours 🤷🏻‍♀️

We cleaned our hull yesterday and with some 18knot sustained and gusting up to 25knot winds we were flying along sometimes reaching 7knots! Though I wish we could have gone 9.7knots, we had some big rollers on the way out which became pretty steady in deeper waters. Goodbye Exumas, it’s time to start of our way out of the Bahamas 😢 Not sure about the detours that have appeared.. kind of seem concurrent with when we turned on Starlink for some short periods during the sail (started this track without internet)

GT to Staniel and back again in 36 hours

We just like sailing.. 🤣 Gary’s brother was meant to come out this week, so we trundled up to Staniel awaiting his arrival. This out of season storm made us do what sailors do best and change plans on their heads. After a bit of arranging, flights were changed for two weeks time and we decided to come back down to Georgetown! 36hours spent in Staniel and 21 hours sailing 🤙🏻

West Palm to Bahamas, baby!

Pretty decent sized swell in the middle of the Gulf Stream. Conditions calmed and had a pretty sweet crossing. Saw a space x rocket in the night, part of it broke off and fell in our route some miles ahead. Buddy boated with Regenero 🤟🏻
