Angela and Bill, the co-founders of Fishing for Plastic have been offshore sailing for many years. In the past 20 years, they have noticed a remarkable increase in plastic pollution on our shorelines. From Southeast Asia to Atlantic beaches in the Bahamas to remote Pacific islands, it is ubiquitous. They formed Fishing for Plastic in 2018 to promote education and get communities involved in cleaning up and caring about their shorelines.
Fishing for Plastic would like to send a huge shout out to Brayden on sv Dovish and Nico on sv Convergence for their awesome work cleaning up Powell Cay.
Jane and Betty didn't let a bit of darkness deter them from their latest beach cleanup on Manjack Cay!
Dozens of styrofoam blocks washed ashore on Powell Cay's ocean beach! When styrofoam breaks down into microplastics, it is eaten by sea life and causes them harm. So glad to clean this all up before that happened!
Thank you Abaco Cruisers! Fishing for Plastic would like to thank all the cruisers who took the time to clean the beaches on Powell Cay while they were visiting. By adding to our Cruisers Collection Site, you are ensuring a large barge load of plastic will be removed at the end of the season. Pick up isn't until June, so please add your collections to the site! This is an important turtle nesting site, making this work even more vital. Please join our group Fishing for Plastic Beach Cleanups to show us what you have been doing in your area! @fishingforplastic
Thank you Blackbeard's Bar and Restaurant for transporting many boatloads of plastic debris from our latest cleanup on Manjack to the landfill at Great Abaco! If you would like to participate in a cleanup, please join our group Fishing for Plastic Beach Cleanups. 😁
