We had a great race with lots of spinnaker usage and got 2nd place over the finish line to clinch 3rd place overall. Had to cut it pretty close to the boats in the harbor at the finish line! It’s been a weird year for Wednesday night racing with lots of bad weather but overall we had great fun.
Brynn and I wanted to sail away for the whole weekend but we ended up only having 1 night to spare. So we made the most of our time and went to go secure a mooring ball for the night. Everything went smoothly and Brynn even got to try driving the dinghy! Next trip we’re planning to go further south!
Awesome breeze and a great evening watching the storm roll in from the comfort of cozy spa creek. It’s been a while since I’ve had to batten down the hatches while out on anchor and damn it really gets hot in the cabin when you don’t have any breeze coming through. Maybe I should fix the dorade vent or just add more fans.
Conducted a kayak survey of our recently completed shoreline restoration project. Here we designed and contracted the installation of these stone breakwaters and plants, which prevent coastal erosion. Most recently this past summer we had beneficial re-use of sandy dredge material to create more planting areas for the living shoreline. A lot of the erosion is still ongoing but a very significant improvement has been made.
Brought a few of friends out for the Tunesday concert last week! My mom brought her friends as well and we ending up having a big raft up ! Sharing some fresh fruit, drinks among friends, we also whipped up some amazing crab dip with our fresh caught crab meat. Looking forward to the next concert.
Had light wind and a nice sail but the motor wouldn’t start up once we started heading back in. Seemed like low voltage and I forgot to charge batteries before we left the dock so that explains it. I might have to look into updated battery bank, but after about an hour and a half it started up again thankfully. 😅
My cousin is visiting from Ireland and we had an awesome sail up the Severn river and anchored out in weems creek for some hammock and card games. We invited a new cocktail that is a game changer: ginger ale & rumple mintz. It’s an excellent smooth and minty cocktail highly recommend.
Environmental science work today completing a survey to locate and evaluate density of sub aquatic vegetation. These plant species create critical nesting habitats for over 80% of all marine species. Our data is then used to determine how grant money will be used to support and protect these aquatic plants.
