A great evening to start the trip and a new engine with 5 more Horses :)) The trip went smoothly to Cape Liptrap and because conditions were calm, I had a rest from 9pm to 11pm because I had little sleep the night before and I had a big journey ahead of me. I started sailing again just before midnight and soon the wind picked up and the sea started to grow. My pace picked up but I didn’t seem to be making the progress that I thought I would - maybe it was because of the tide running against me? At around 6am I was concerned I wouldn’t be able to get into San Remo because of the barway having too much surf … and thought I’d need to do an extra 4 hours to the next safest location to anchor (Cat Bay). I soon found my kayak had flipped (I’m towing the kayak) and it had filled with water - so I was dragging it along and this would have been slowing me down. Lucky I thought to call a local fisherman around 9am and talked with him - he said I’d be fine at the barway at San Remo - Phew! I wasn’t looking forward to many more hours on the helm. The new engine worked well, but I think I may have done something to it because the propellor comes out of the water when larger swell rolls underneath me… lucky it needs to have its first 20hr service so they can check it out then. Glad to have arrived - a tricky current to safely dock at the jetty but I did it :)) A decent solo trip for me - 20hours on the helm … 42nm at around 2-3knotts.
My next leg could be happening tomorrow morning: Walkerville to Inverloch and then San Remo (Phillip Island). Let’s see how much sea is around at 7am…
