O’Canada!!! We didn’t think we would be on the hook in Canada tonight after our start this morning. But we took a quick nap after our turn around and decided the weather had improved enough for us to send it across the lake. We had 10ish knots of the beam the whole way and it was absolutely amazing until the end when we had 6ft rollers following us into the channel.
Well went out onto the Lake and decided it was a bit too rough to cross with the masts on deck. (Beyond stressful having the masts just riding on deck) Definitely don ’t want to have a mast fall off so we decided we will go another day😂 Nothing wrong with tucking tail, and tomorrow may be better.
Erie Canal ✅ Oswego Canal 6 of 7 done (yes there’s only 7 because lock 4 doesn’t exist) Easy day of cruising in the near 100 degree heat. Was better than sitting at the dock with no A/C though so we will take it! Saw a massive bald eagle (photo is terrible) but that makes like 5 on the trip so far. One more lock before we have made it to the Great Lakes!
This was an easy trip across Lake Oneida and it was absolutely beautiful. Haley was wildly hungover so she napped while we cruised across the lake. It was interesting to see people tubing and water skiing as we drove our ocean vessel around 😂 Also, jet ski water cross is a wild sport! Another free wall so more money saved 🤘🏼 Almost to the start of the Oswego canal and Lake Ontario. Canada here we come!!
Long long long day of driving in a straight line 😂 we started the day with a grocery run to Aldi and then took off with Sylvan as our end goal. Was a little crazy coming into this town with every citizen owning a pontoon boat and using it today. Made for an interesting docking situation but we made it to the free wall. First dip in the fresh water hit different 🤘🏼
Today was a windy one with 40 knot gusts but that didn’t stop us from getting to our end goal today! And our end goal was a brewery with a free dock. Does it get any better?? Some massive locks and some small ones along the way! We managed to get from 14 to almost 19 today. On the way to the lake tomorrow and I hear there is a casino at the next stop. So $100 on red when we arrive??
Another day another lock! We have made it to lock 14 today and will be holding down the fort to get some work down. Once we got to the free wall I rode the one wheel into town and spotted a horse and buggy at the traffic light😂 we cruised along the highway and it was quite the sight to see how everyone is always rushing to somewhere while we just putt along at 5knots. Tomorrow is going be an interesting day doing the locks in quite a bit of wind forecasted.
Another day of couple locks before work and more locks after work. This type of cruising is one exhausting and slow😂 not being able to work and move is slowing us down quite a bit Same thing tomorrow🤘🏼
First true day on the Erie Canal and we did 7 locks today! Stopped at a free wall to take a few meetings and get some work done. Locks are wild and we have never done anything like this so it’s very different cruising than the average days. Did a night cruise and caught the last lock right at 5:30, made it to the marina(since there aren’t many anchorages in the canal) right in time for a docktail.
I named this voyage the mastless wander. The first trip after taking the masts down for the Erie Canal was a rainy slow one. But we feel faster than ever with no wind drag and we are now a short torpedo shooting through the water 😂. Motorboating has it perks….i guess Stay tuned only about 100 locks to go🤘🏼
