We finally got a break in the weather and made the most of it by getting down to Leland. Also this marks our third Great Lake of the journey when we crossed under the Mackinac Bridge from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan. This is an awesome little town, and it’s small legit one main road😂 but it also has a fish town with a river running through the middle of it. Haley got a Bloody Mary with a smoked fish in it!! Wish we could have stayed longer but with this good weather we need to make the most of it before we have to fly back to Idaho for a wedding.
We wanted to stay on the island but with the wind that was forecasted we decided the main land marina would be more comfortable. Took the ferry over to Mackinac Island for the weekend, got a hotel room and explored everywhere we could. From every bar we could see to the famous arch rock we really enjoyed our time on the island. An island with no cars only horses and bikes it is a absolute time capsule of an island. Highly recommend a visit!🤘🏼
We made our way over to Island #8 to visit a looper and friend we have made along the way. What a beautiful area to be during the summer, the UP is absolutely stunning and the water is perfect! I managed to launch myself off the dinghy going full speed and had to be rescued by some locals as I watched the dinghy drive in a tight circle until the painter got caught in the prop. I will be using the kill chord now😂 On to Mackinaw tomorrow 🤘🏼
After a few months in Canada having a summer we will never forget, we have crossed back into the states. From the Trent Severn to Georgian Bay and the North Channel Canada gave us everything we wanted in a perfect summer. Beautiful clear water, sketchy rock cuts, rafting up with strangers, and eating fried fish on an island restaurant. We couldn’t have enjoyed our time any more than we did. Haley summed up Canada as “the perfect way to start Josh’s 30s and the perfect way to cap off my 20s” In a way it feels like the journey is ending but in reality we haven’t even hit the halfway mark. Time to make our way to Chicago for some needing maintenance and flying home for a wedding before my parents fly out to see the boat for the first time!🤘🏼 Recap of our Canadian adventure: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNl8azWJeEk/?igsh=aTcwOHZ1bnd6dHBh
We are quickly making our way across the North Channel towards the US. The weddings we need to be at are quickly approaching and we have a lot of ground to cover before we fly out. It was a very easy day getting here after waiting out a little weather to start the morning. I think we will be in this anchorage for at least 2 nights maybe 3 before we make a long jump towards the US.
Another early morning cruise from Little Current over to the Benjamins. We tried to anchor in one spot but there were too many boats so went elsewhere only to return later in the day to be near friends. Had an amazing fire where we cooked our chicken and potatoes in the fire. It couldn’t have been better🤘🏼many little beers and drinks were also consumed! Here’s the thing with cruising in Canada it’s amazingly beautiful but you never get a nice secluded anchorage. It’s always full. Now I’m not saying that’s a bad thing but it is a thing.
Killarney will be a spot we don’t forget anytime soon! Had a great anniversary with even better people! Managed to see two helicopters land and one seaplane. Hiked to the lighthouse and then we were on our way to Little Current. It was a perfect day for it as well, just cruising along working on the back deck. Managed to barely make the 4pm bridge and got anchored up at Picnic Island. Did what will more than likely be our last grocery run of your time in Canada and we stoked up for the North Channel! On to the Benjamin Islands tomorrow to meet up with @DustinationUnknown! 🤘🏼
We made the jump from Bustards to Killarney to spend our 3rd anniversary in style at the mountain lodge. It was a great cruise over, left bright and early to have some good weather. Absolutely beautiful out there and the sunrise was spectacular! Dinner at the Ranch was everything we needed after 2 weeks of anchoring out.
Easy cruise today, we started going one way and realized there was no chance we were going to try this little cut that zig zagged into between two rocks and a nice boulder cliff. Back out to the bay we want but it was a non event compared to yesterday, little swell on the beam but it was comfortable 🤘🏼 The bustard island are quite beautiful can’t wait to go explore by dinghy
