Started sailing roughly since birth. After dedicating the better part of the past 40 years to working intensively in IT and telecoms, I’m ready to turn the tables and focus on enjoying life, family and friends. Original from Seattle, I’ve lived for 30+ years in Spain. Now my official residence is in Florida but I still live part time in Spain spending several months of the year in Madrid and Sevilla where we have homes and where my wife and my two daughters were born. We love to travel and have been all over Europe. We’re excited to discover the Bahamas and the Caribbean I’m launching SV Lola, a new Leopard 42, with plans to spend the coming season cruising the waters of Florida and the Bahamas.

An amazing downwind sailing day.

There’s a good reason for the saying “fair winds and following seas”: 15 knots of wind with 5” seas on the nose or on the beam makes for an unpleasant passage. Today I was able to chose to put them astern and we just sat back and enjoyed the ride.

Another awesome day on the water.

We had a good night on anchor in an incredible anchorage. Before setting out we took an epic stroll on a beach where you think “it doesn’t get much better than this” Sailing to wind is a pain in the ass. 18-20kts on the nose weren’t forecasted. Luckily Mariló didn’t call it quits. She stuck it out. She’s overcoming her fears and fortunately zero seasickness. The first few hours a slog. But then, we caught our first Mahi, the wind subsided and the second half of the day passage was calm. Another amazing day on the water

Staying ahead of hurricane Helene

We hurried out of Fort Lauderdale to get in front of the storm. That turned out to be the ideal strategy as last night, we barely saw the outer bands of Hurricane Helene. The Leopard 50 has proven to be a worthy sailing machine. We saw 15 to 25 knots although most of the past three days have been 18 to 24 on the beam. It gave us a comfortable, fast ride.

Leopard 50 delivery for Annapolis boat show

We hurried to get out of Fort Lauderdale ahead of hurricane Helene and we were blessed with perfect winds to sail all the way to Chesapeake bay. We averaged over 9 kts sailing often seeing 13kts SOG. It was a sporty ride but amazing sailing. The trip up the Chesapeake was slow motoring on flat calm water. We motored in to Annapolis under bright sunshine.

SV Lola is out of the marina and on the water. Even though it was only an afternoon sail it beats sitting around waiting for the contractors to finish. … The boat runs great and sails nicely. Now she’s back to the marina for a few more weeks while the projects finish I’ll be off to Annapolis in a couple of days on a new Leopard 50. Looking forward to some sea days and the parties at the Annapolis boat show. Sure beats watching the installations progress slowly (just marginally more exciting than watching grass grow)

Preparing Lola for adventure It’s a “waiting game”. Waiting 18+ months for the new boat and now waiting for all the upgrades to be completed. Solar arch with 2kw of solar just went on. They make it look easy.
