Kona, HI
I’ve been sailing out of Kona (Honokohau Harbor) for a year and a half, on three different boats, with Aloha Community Sailing Club. From no sailing experience, to a skipper for the club. On average I sail once a week.
Back on Sigrid. Light wind, and low swell, typical summer sailing in Kona. Saw a couple Hawaiian monk seals before leaving the harbor, then some spinning dolphins on the way back in. Always good to get out on the water.
Went on a fishing charter instead of my weekly day sail. One bite, but no fish… still a good day on the water.
Took out Sigrid, the Ericson 23. 6-10 knots of wind, only 1’ swell. Easy, pleasant day, but it was hot… summer time in Kona.
Sailing on Sigrid. 4-6 knots of wind, 2-3’ swell. Tried out a new $40 lure, got a big strike, and broke the line… lost it all. Oh well, that’s fishing. It was a great sail anyway.
Sailing on Sigrid. 6-8 knots of wind 2’ swell. A good fun day.
Double handed on Sigrid, an Erickson 23. Light winds and swell. Had a line out, but caught nothing. Good sail anyway.
Double handed on Sigrid the Erickson 23. 10-15 knot wind, 3’ swell. Tried trolling, but caught nothing, the sailing was great though.
We took the kiddos out for a sail on the Cal 20. First sail for both of them, and they had a great time. 6-8 knot wind, and 2’ swell. The squiggly line on the tracker is when we let the kids steer, lol.
A good day sail on Sigrid, an Erickson 23. Only 6-8 knots of wind, and 2’-3’ swell, but she moves pretty well in light winds. Champagne sailing as they say.
Double handed on Sigrid, the Erickson 23. Light wind, only 4-6 knots, but with a 4’-6’ swell. On the return trip, we were fighting a current, so after 30 minutes of little progress, we decided to motor sail back. Also had a fishing line out, but didn’t catch anything. Not the greatest day sailing, but it’s still good to be out on the water.
