Kona, HI
I’ve been sailing out of Kona (Honokohau Harbor) for a year and a half, on three different boats, with Aloha Community Sailing Club. From no sailing experience, to a skipper for the club. On average I sail once a week.
We took the kiddos out for a sail on the Cal 20. First sail for both of them, and they had a great time. 6-8 knot wind, and 2’ swell. The squiggly line on the tracker is when we let the kids steer, lol.
A good day sail on Sigrid, an Erickson 23. Only 6-8 knots of wind, and 2’-3’ swell, but she moves pretty well in light winds. Champagne sailing as they say.
Double handed on Sigrid, the Erickson 23. Light wind, only 4-6 knots, but with a 4’-6’ swell. On the return trip, we were fighting a current, so after 30 minutes of little progress, we decided to motor sail back. Also had a fishing line out, but didn’t catch anything. Not the greatest day sailing, but it’s still good to be out on the water.
We had a beginner with us today, he did quite well. 8-10 knot wind with only 1’-2’ swell. A great day for a sail…(of course I always say that).
Double handed on Sigrid, an Erickson 23. Light winds around 6-8 knots. 2’ swell. A super calm day, but still a good time. Got rained on as we were putting the boat away, but all in all, a good sail.
Had a hell of a time getting around the point, beating into a 10-15 knot wind, with a current against us. Great learning experience, and confidence builder. All in all, a good sail.
Short cruise up the coast, on Sigrid, an Erickson 23, anchored at the beach with a couple other boats. 8-12 knot wind. A nice downwind sail.
Took out a newbie on the Cal 20. 6-10 knot wind . Great day for a sail until the wind died completely.
Double handed on Sigrid, an Ericson 23. Beautiful day for a sail. 8 knots wind, 2’ swell. We won both races!
Double handing the Cal 20. The spinner dolphins were quite active while motoring out. We had a pretty consistent 10 knots of wind, with 2’ swell for most of the day, but it died down to almost nothing in the last 20 minutes. Great sail.
