As we set sail from Greece to Sicily, our first day at sea followed the usual routine of adjusting to life onboard. Finn, our cat, had a brief illness but found comfort in the cockpit, where he rested for the day. The night sky sparkled with stars and a bright moon, creating a magical atmosphere over the ocean. On the second day, our journey took an exciting turn when we spotted a sperm whale on the horizon. I was so excited I couldn’t control myself. I shouted “WHAAAAAALLEEEEE!!!” at the top of my lungs and jumped up and down with pure joy. It was like I was a child again, tripling over with my feet out of sheer happiness. The wind picked up, pushing us forward into the night, and we celebrated a successful catch of a big-eyed tuna at sunset. Day three presented new challenges as fatigue set in, compounded by Greg accidentally tangling a line in the propeller. Despite our efforts, it took Michi's courage to dive into the rough waves and untangle the obstruction. With fatigue weighing heavily on us, the day felt like a struggle against the elements. Day four offered a much-needed break from the hardships of the sea. We relaxed with books and enjoyed delicious meals made from our fresh catch. Our boat also became a refuge for tired birds, some of which were unfamiliar to us. As the sun rose on day five, we finally glimpsed the shores of Sicily, signaling the end of our voyage. With a sense of accomplishment and a treasure trove of memories, we had successfully crossed part of the Mediterranean to reach our destination.
