Today’s sail was special. It began with perfect conditions, what sailors often term as “champagne sailing”. I decided to take a nap below deck, only to be awakened by the sound of raindrops. Sailing in the rain has a unique vibe that I really enjoy. It’s eerie in a fascinating way. Suddenly, Greg’s voice pierced through the rain. “Put on your foul weather gear!” followed by a “help” not long after. The wind intensified, signaling the proximity of a storm. Lightning, something I strongly dislike, filled me with unease. I looked outside and we were in a 2-minute storm, just as quickly as it arrived, it passed. It still rained quite a lot, but rain by itself gives me a peaceful feeling. Plus, we finally got rid of the lingering Sahara dust. We anchored beneath a foreboding, darkened sky at Isola delle Correnti, where the Ionian and Mediterranean Seas converge. Throughout the night, relentless waves rocked our boat, granting us very little sleep.
