With no wind, we motor out of the bay. After a while, the wind picks up enough for us to sail for an hour, but it soon dies down to about four knots. The speed and course aren't suitable, so we switch the engine back on. Eventually, we cut the engine and sail again, but this time we face some very nasty waves. I feel progressively worse, almost throwing up with every swell, and the cold seeps into my bones. I don't have the energy to grab a jumper. We start the engine again to gain speed and control over the waves. Along the way, we encounter a couple of dolphins, playful yet elusive for photos. They swim under our boat, switching sides now and then, keeping us company for at least two miles without appearing in a single picture. By the time we reach our anchorage, my energy is completely drained. The trip has been far from pleasant. I crawl into bed and don't get up for the rest of the evening.
