Brisbane
I've just started sailing in the Atlantic and originally from Brisbane, Australia. If you asked me as a child, I'd say I wanted to be a marine biologist. And I'm glad to be a digital nomad and digital journalist documenting sailing life in Norway. π³π΄ Interested in meeting new friends, community events, and ways to connect to nature. We believe in the collective and the future is collaboration.
What a stunning day! βοΈ Warm sun on our face as we breathe in the rare good weather cruisin' round Lysefjorden from Stavanger. Hardly anyone on the water after a busy Easter long holiday... perhaps most everyone was gardening or preparing their home for 17th Mai celebrations next month... no worries, we enjoyed the 4-hour hike up and down the famous Preikestolen and --beleive it or not--pretty much no people hiking on the way down. Postcard, unbelievable views, and that scary, breathtaking moment of the last bend before reaching and being on Pulpit Rock (#IYKYK). Wasn't the usual windy weather β it was truly brilliant timing. π And... the post hike swim in the icy-cold Fjord was just what we needed. Feeling refreshed and watching the pastel skyes and sunset, complete with the blue hour π and glow of Lysefjorden β¨οΈ Our hearts were full and so were our tummies (tapas and a sauna ...does it get any better than this?!) ππ And then it was time for a quick visit to the "Barception" at Lysefjorden hotel to return the sauna key and say by to the famous Pulpit Rock. What a day!
Sunny day in Stavanger, and it's time to meet friends and make waffles in the sun on deck Kittywake and Stina Mari today. We have really enjoyed hanging with the droptag.no crew who leave us to Bergen, up north, for One Ocean week (they are hosting an event on their yacht Kittywake for the one ocean week event in April). It's time to plan the spring and summer ahead and fix things that always need fixing... such is #boatlife
Excellent conditions on board droptag.no 's yacht Kittywake. Forging friendships and making memories. It was an incredible day sailing around Stavanger's archepalago on board droptag.no beautiful sailing yacht. Seriously, fun sailing together-we got up to 8.9 knots! With 3 pairs of sunnies, we watched the solar eclipse πβ¨οΈ Wind in our hair and lots of fun below deck rustling up some grub (good ol' Toro lasagne for the win) with a touch or nutmeg, truffle salt, and fresh herbs grown on board! Not too shabby at all!
It was a lot of fun with the crew. Beautiful cheese filled breakfast and boiled eggs. Then, it was time to try the top sails. Beautiful sunset sailing, and then we shared our biggest pot of soup and garlic bread. Our friends from France beat us to Jelsa but not by much... maybe half an hour because they guessed our final destination for the day and took a bit of a shorter route there. Jelsa is a beautiful spot to dock, we were here on the 24th of August and had fun free diving and enjoying the local hospitality. Looking forward to waking tomorrow and sailing to some beautiful spots, the captain recommended our friends to visit.
Beautiful day free diving for scallops and having those moments that days away at sea π help foster... deeper connections, feels like having known each other for years and sharing values and experiences, and a heck of a lot of sailing challenges together β€οΈ we used the top sail today and ... we were absolutely flying in some of our team manoeuvres, -our 19yr old Skipper Sofie had to be harnessed to stay on the boat! It was all fun and games and a lot of levelling up both in our sailing skills and our level of self-confidence and teamwork.
It was smooth sailing. We got a few extra hands on deck, and everyone got to hoist the sails and keep their hands busy. Then there was some good wind and sleet/small hail and a lot of light rain. π§ So it was super fun to anchor (in the dark) π and rustle up some grub (Aussie for whipping up a meal fast). Our friends from France joined us in their sailing boat. Dinner was steak tar tar and spaghetti with local sausages, fennel, and lots of little local goodies... organic veggies and herbs picked from our community garden projects we are part of (Permaby & ByAuk) and a lot of good French wine to wash it all down with. Then there was dessert... we hardly had the room for it, but the captain insisted the Napoleon Cake (Norwegian custard, butter, ouff pastry sweet treat) is a must try, and everyone was glad they did. Then we had some Norwegian licorice milk chocolate with salt! (DON'T knock it 'till you've tried it because it was good!). Everyone slept super well under a clear, stary sky with the small glow of city lights in the background across the fjords.β¨οΈ Life is good. Couldn't ask for a better Saturday night sailing in September in the Western fjords of Norway π³π΄ππ
We went free diving and did some sail training and lots of good meals together. Couldn't ask first better weather or company.
Smooth sailing and stunning sunny weather 18C when we left Stavanger harbour... Now it's unbelievably beautiful and unreal.
What a day it's been just helping friends to find a spot for their beautiful racing yacht. Sun is shining, and it's a beautiful day for a swim or time to contemplate how idealic the Western fjords of Norway are. This was a fun trip with our crew getting to sail such big sails.
