SeaPeople co-founder 🔱 YCA co-founder 🏴 I bought my first boat, the sv Miss Informed, in 2012. Had planned on the trip to last less than a year. 13 years later I’m still floating around out there, fully addicted to the travel. I’m now cruising on sv Lost. I spend most of my cruising time in the Bahamas now 🇧🇸 but still plan to cross the Pacific in the next couple of years.
The Windward Passage was the right call. Downwind running with the seas and the stops were unexpected beauties. Diving the Bay Islands was a dream. The clarity was on par with the best day in the Bahamas and the reefs were more lively than anything I’ve come across. We spent a few weeks cruising the Bay Islands until the heat finally forced us to the Rio Dulce for air conditioned dockage hah. The engines are loving the freshwater rinse and we’re enjoying it over here so far. Great food, people, and lots of new things to explore before our haul out in June. 🐒 🦥 Hell of a season, @SV_Chief, @camilledegabrielle, and @Erin 🙌. Oh, and sorry for shamelessly taking all of your amazing pics
The first day we had to mostly motor through squalls as we rounded Jamaica. About halfway to the west coast, we had our coolant pump bearing fail on us which was pretty fun. Luckily I had hung onto an old one that was starting to weep so the next day we cleaned her up and did our best to make new gaskets to put it all back together. Alas, they did not hold… going to need to spend a little more TLC on this one. The next day the wind filled in and we were able to send it with following seas on and off with main + whomper to sometimes just the ol’ whomp by her lonesome when we had to go directly downwind. We had several groups of swallows visit us along the way. The first guy died in the boat, probably because we didn’t realize he was hunting for water… poor dude. We gave Sheryl (or Shane) a proper burial at sea 🪦. All in all the spinnaker got one hell of a workout and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Stoked to explore this island with our buddy boaters, @SV_Chief and @camilledegabrielle 🥾
Had a great stop in Inagua and now Jamaica. Amazing sailing into lush mountains after months of flat islands. We got our fill of fresh fruit 🍌🥭🍈🥥 🍍. Can’t say enough good things about Port Antonio and the people of Jamaica 🇯🇲 @SV_Chief and the gang are getting ready to head West in a few days. Hurry it up, @SaltySunrise!
The Raggeds did not disappoint… cruised in with buddy boaters @SV_Chief and @camilledegabrielle and were blown away by the amount of fish/ life in general at the reef. The stay was short but we had an extremely tight weather window to get to Great Inagua. Had a great sail to Inagua, never more than 3nm from SV Chief, crazy. That’s while we were both sailing from 6 to 10 kts. We’ll chill here until a window opens up to start our trip through the Windward Passage to Jamaica 🇯🇲
The squad went full-on Deadliest Catch mode with plans of reeling in more fish than a cruising boat has any business catching in a single afternoon. Unfortunately, after blowing the entire budget on Keystone Lights, Bloody Marys, and an irresponsible amount of taco dip, there was nothing left for live bait. Live bait was exactly what these fish demanded. Ketch and Camille pulled out every trick in the book but the fish just weren’t buying it. We didn’t land any monsters out there but a good time was had. The Keystone Lights didn’t stand a chance. @camilledegabrielle @SV_Chief @Brandy_Kaikoa @Erin @SailingSunGem @Moonshine40 @sailingsnailtrail @Sunshine
Snail trail had the lead to start, Lost lost a tube at the start 🤦♀️ and I had to rip in Cannoli to get it back. About halfway through we managed to pass the snail trail and they never recovered. We have suspicions that they let us win :/. Is that true, snails?! It was pretty sporty out there, today!
No bueno. Beneteau style washer did a fair bit of chewing into the prop. I’m guessing the key wasn’t a solid fit and the slop allowed the washer to eventually work its way through the prop. It began unthreading itself enough for the key to slide out. Probably wouldn’t have happened if the washer was properly bent down into the key hole. Fantastic. Think I should carve a new divot into the prop to lock in the new washer? When I get hauled in Guatemala I’ll likely just drill a couple of holes through the nut and shaft and toss in some cotter pins.
Brian & Erin², our longest buddy boat crew, just set sail north while we're heading south. For the first time since we met, our boats are headed in opposite directions. Over the past 4 years, we’ve sailed thousands of nautical miles side by side, usually within sight of each other. This is the bittersweet reality of cruising, and it hits hard. "Goodbye" takes on a whole new meaning when you live at sea. You never know when a fellow adventurer will change course and sail off into the horizon. Here’s your reminder to live in the moment and meet as many cruisers around you as you can. No matter what anyone says, it’s the bonds you make with cruisers along your journey that bring the true magic to this water world—even when the Exumas are sparkling with beauty all around you. For me, the greatest value of the SeaPeople app is its ability to keep us connected with those kindred spirits, even when plans take you thousands of miles away from each other. Love you guys and can’t wait to share an anchorage again someday! @Regenero @erinjanecarey @erin
Floatchella was amazing this year! Met so many rad cruisers that I’ll be staying in touch with from now on. Today it seemed everyone thought it was a good call to head south so we reluctantly followed like sheep. Plowing into waves at 7.5 kts is painful, so we reefed Lost to the max and worked our way down slowly. Plan to stay in Pipe creek for a few days kiteboarding if anyone wants to join.
Got here a day early to watch the Super Bowl at anchor before our raftup tomorrow. Excited for the next couple of days here in paradise 🇧🇸
So glad we came down! Watching the classic Bahamian sloops battle it out was awesome 🇧🇸 Heading up to Shroud now for Floaaaaaatchella 🏴
Had a blast watching the traditional Bahamian sloop boat race at little farmers cay. I was rooting for Sassy Sue, Brian wanted Termite to win, but Slaughter, quite literally slaughtered everyone wining most if not all the races. Made it to staniel to restock before Floatchella in Shroud!
Nice motor sail from Shroud down to Soldier Cay filled with unfinished Yahtzee and chess games. I guess that means I lost. It was a last minute call to make our way into Soldier instead of anchoring at Bell but I’m glad we squeezed through. The sand ripples in the area are so big that you’d swear you’re about to run aground. Makes you feel small seeing it from above
Really light wind sail to start the day but it picked up to a solid 15kts at the beam in the afternoon. You never get used to the water out here… surreal
Now it’s time to work our way to the Exumas for a chill couple of weeks before Floatchella! There’s a group created for Floatchella at Shroud, make sure to join it for details on the event as it gets closer 🤙🏼
Magenta line never looks like the right path but I’m real glad it is 🙌🏼. Near impossible to judge this route by site. Dark, dark patches on the bottom always have you thinking you’re headed for reef 🪸. Sticking around for about a week.
More wind than forecasted made it a good one but no luck on the lines. Excited to spend a little time here before the Exumas 🤙🏼
We will miss the Abacos and Hope Town specifically but we are picking up friends next week in Governors Harbor!
Busiest I’ve ever seen the Little Harbour mooring field. Only one ball available. Flew the jib and putzed our way back to HT. Bonfire on the beach tonight if you didn’t see the hail!
@abbypatch and @katiecincotta have escaped the cold north for a visit to the Abacos! Today we ripped down to Pete’s Pub 🤙🏼. Tomorrow should be a good day to lift sail towards Guana
Got on the usual ball in Hope Town Harbour today and it feels good to be back!
Had an extra long stop in Fort Pierce this year to visit with good friends @Legacy. They made the mistake of giving us an address to ship parts, something like they’ll likely never do again. Before leaving, Pam made her famous Thanksgiving casserole and sent me off with about 20 lbs of it. Love you guys and can’t wait to link up again soon. Keep hitting ‘em straight out there ⛳️. Worked my way down the coast yesterday to West Palm Beach for a better angle to cross the stream. This morning I did a quick dive to scrape the scum and wake myself up and then shot out for the Bahamas Bank. Planning to check in at Green Turtle Cay and will go through the night if I can make it. If not, plenty of islands to anchor off of. I’m less than three miles from the bank and it feels good 🙌🏼. A LOT to be thankful for this year.
Calmest crossing I’ve ever had. All last night there wasn’t a lick of wind but I decided to drop anchor off Great Sale after hearing @Regenero is on his way to Green Turtle, shooting for Monday! Their customs/ immigration office isn’t open until then so I’ll be bobbing around through the weekend. Spent most of today painting the whaler, a job I thought would be quick for some reason. It wasn’t, and I’m about halfway done. Got to Spanish Cay in time for an amazing sunset. It’s one big magic show out here, you never get used to it 🙌🏼
Manatees, dolphins, and an unbelievable amount of shrimp trying to crack through my hull. Lots of neighbors here in Ft Pierce
Today has gotten incrementally worse out here. The seas have really picked over the last few hours thanks to these squalls. We’d also really like to thank the fisherman for dropping his trap right on our path. We made it through a summer in Maine only to catch a trap off the coast of FL… getting into the Fort Pierce inlet on one engine with my back to this swell is going to be real fun. Wish us luck.
Almost to the clear stuff and we’re stoked! Trip down was mostly uneventful. Had almost 3 really good days of sailing with 15 knots on the beam. Our last day was a sloppy one but mostly due to the squalls. We must have changed reefing points 10 times yesterday alone. Freed the rudder this morning. The line was knotted and wrapped around the keel and rudder. Somehow it didn’t have any affect on steering.
The wind kicked in just as we rounded the Frying Pan Shoals. It’s super light but that’s alright. We’ll be able snooze well out here. The big tradeoff. 8-10 knots of wind, moving anywhere from 4-5 knots. If the weather shifts easterly late Friday, we’ll likely keep on going down the Florida coast to Fort Pierce. Anyone else love leaving port not knowing where or when you’ll stop?
Sundowners with sea peeps 🧜♂️🍻. I’ve never seen the anchorage so busy. Just about everyone that came is taking the same route south. Excited for more linkups in paradise soon🏝️ 🇧🇸
If you heard the call, you know it means we’re sending a sundowner cheers your way! Really excited for the crew tagging features to come soon 🤙🏼
It’s amazing, once you get around Hatteras it’s time to shed a layer. We’ve only been able to sail a total of 3 hours so far. Looking like the wind should pick up for us in the middle of the night. Had a great visit from some friends today to make the motoring worthwhile 🐬
Got the engine going this morning and of course it was the last injector on the pump. We’re going to motor/ motorsail to Hatteras and then if the forecast holds, the wind clocks around for us to make a big southwest jump to Florida.
One of our favorites stops on the coast. Planning to hang around a week or so until a good weather opens up. If you’re in the area, reach out 🤙🏼
Glassy all day today out there. Smelled some diesel fumes after anchoring in Deltaville to find two really badly leaking injectors off the pump. First three injectors had really clean seals but I swapped anyhow (fuel pump was rebuilt in July). Will get back in there tomorrow morning to check the 4th. Here’s to no chipped paint falling in… 🤞 If we can get it sorted quickly, the weather looks good for a motor sail to Hatteras tomorrow and then a good sail westerly on the inside of the Gulf for the next several days.
Had an awesome time at the boat show buuuuuut the flu crushed me again on the last night. I had a high fever for 4 days that made it rough to get anything done but yesterday I finally came back to life 💪🏼. I’m 0-3 now for Annapolis Boat Shows. Think I better stick to sundowners on boats and beach bonfires. Can’t handle this land stuff. Today we had a quick goodbye with @alexberg and Taylor and made a rip down to Solomon’s to find @AlfredB chillin in Mill Creek. This winter of cruising is going to be a good one 🤙🏼 Watching the weather closely for a big jump offshore soon 🤞
Strong dink swag, @alexberg Ready for a long week ahead in Annapolis!
They saw us coming down the coast and came out 10mm offshore to drop off some homemade chili in 5-6 ft swell. Just when I was about to pour myself a bowl a cereal too… Love you guys, see you tomorrow in Cape May 🤘🏼 @Seastickels
Another motor-sail day to get to Sandy Hook. Soooo happy we didn’t head to Cape May from Block on Saturday. It would have been punishing. Yesterday we were surfing waves in the sound at 12 knots with gusts up to 30. Tomorrow we’ll swing in to Atlantic City to visit some friends @Seastickels 🤙🏼
We were so excited to get to Block today for our last NE lobsta roll only to find out they no longer sell them on the pier… If the rain holds off maybe we’ll make the trek to town. Keeping our eyes on the weather window this weekend for a jump straight to Cape May 🤞. @Regenero & @cody, let’s do this.
