Sea People co-founder and CEO Taking a season off cruising this year to work on SeaPeople, but 20 years of boating adventure before this. Fixed up a boat and took off to go sailing at 18 after a wild childhood. Broke off the mast en-route to the Caribbean. Never looked back. Worked in the boating industry in various ways ever since. As a professional yacht captain, racer wannabe , sailing school owner, racer wannabe, and marine film/tv work. In love with this community. Never want to work outside of boats. Co-created YCA with my wife Caroline out of a passion for bringing people together. Cruised the N Atlantic between Maine and Grenada for a few seasons. Panama and the canal 3 times. Lots of really dumb deliveries at really bad times of year when I was young and trying to prove myself in the wrong ways. Now enjoying most our time in Abaco while the kids are little and the shoulders are still able to surf. Stoked to meet all the other Sea People out there.
Mahi are here in numbers. Tried to get out early with the kids before school and work. Assumed it was too bumpy out, but kids were begging and already awake. Got out Tilloo cut, but just too rough to get to the fishing grounds at any speed with tike to fish and and get back in the 23. Fished off the dock with coffees for a bit and found a greedy grouper to kiss and release. Hope it wasn’t our last chance offshore before heading to the states Thursday.
Paddle up pub you could say, the Thirsty Cuda, for a quick one. Sharmen and Mark are legends for keeping the door open until we got there. 🙏🏻 Channeling some inner @shanedonogh. minus the long miles or fast speeds.
Full day and two tired boys. Fished this morning. Too rough out deep but trolled reefs. Mutton & Hog 🐠 for dinner. Stopped by to chat with peeps in the harbor before a big exit this week with the good weather. Fair winds everyone. MOW for some diving, pool for a quick beve, Jumping off the dock with Aarons kids to end a long day in the ☀️. I may be biased 😉 but these stays are fun. 8.5 hour day on the boat, about half that moving, 25 miles. Would have never guessed that.
Still waiting on diving weather on the outside. But always something to do in Abaco from any wind direction. The rocks in the far end of the bite of old Robinson have super healthy coral 🪸 for a fun swim with kids or beginners.
Wind coming up fast today. Had a very brief window and two excited boys. Got sharked on a Cero and never found the Mahi. No real bird action. Now for coffee ☕️
Beauty of a day. Kids chased fish for a long time in the morning down in the shallow lee of tilloo. Dove a couple wrecks in the Point Set channel and MOW channel. Headed to Scotland to warm up with plans to do Sunday Funday at Guana, but the hundreds of boats headed that changed our plans. Cruised back to Tahiti beach to meet some friends and finish the weekend. And a special surprise SeaPeople hat delivery to a SeaPeople PLUS user and new friend.
Tried to dive with the boys up N but it was too windy. Hit up some kid spots on the inside.
Little morning troll before school and work. Feels great to be settled into Hope Town. Boys woke up this morning pulling out Wahoo lures but too rough offshore. Found some hungry yellow tail, a little Nassau grouper, and a cuda along the inside. Everything is back home under water… today. 🫧
Run to MH for an airport drop off then getting some video of the cruisers regatta. Great to see a few boats tough out some breeze and make the day happen. 💪 @jamel @jackvagabonde @etacarinae
Woke up to ❄️ on the roof this week. Can’t wait to get back aboard, get to the Bahamas 🇧🇸 and get under water! Living shoreside part of the year and aboard part of the year comes with lots of pros, and lots of cons. Pro: it’s nice to mix things up a bit and spend time in the mtns. Con: boats that sit, like to quit. Hard to let the ole girl sit for so long without being used. And also hard to get the lungs back in shape for diving after long breaks. The kids are excited to move back aboard this season, but maybe not as much as Banks 🐕! Who’s gonna be in the Bahamas this Winter/ Spring?
Camping and canoeing lake days with the boys and some of their friends, trying to keep their scales wet. They’re already asking when we’re getting back on the boat to go to Bahamas 🇧🇸. We love these mtn days but have to agree…. The islands are calling.
Starting where the trickle emerges from the mountain and bush-wacking / rock-hopping down as the trickle turns into a creek and almost into a river. Someday will complete following this trickle all the way to the sea.
Great beach rendezvous with the Hobbs who ran down from Beaufort in their Jupiter. Kids had a ball. Blowing 25kts by the end of the day.
Another first this week. Never tried wake surfing. Pretty similar to real surfing. Fingers crossed for an active hurricane season that stays offshore and sends NC some summer swell but keeps all of our boats safe.
12 hours in Florida and just a couple mins to meet friends before my flight. Instead of drinks, I got tossed onto a foil for the first time. Way harder than I thought it would be. Thanks Jon and Ray Test…test
Hours of running after minnows in the shallows should = a good night sleep for the boys tonight. ICW was a zoo today. Summer has arrived on the NC coast.
Crazy that we were in the Bahamas two days ago. Shocking change of environment.
Frustrating, exhausting, but such a gift when you need it. Weather is good, but timing with kids and work not letting us offshore.
Buuuut. It’s been 6 years since I’ve been able to stop in Melbourne for the greatest hot dogs in America. If you pass through, Mustards is the mustard. Night sleep at double breasted is never great when wind goes against current. But still worth the stop. Had some annoying chop on the beam for most of the ride across the bank, and once we got into the deep water it was refreshing to cruise over ground swell. Went flat flat calm for the last hour. Fuel stop at Harbortown $3.49 members $4.19 regular. But they only had a drop of fuel left to give after a busy spring break week. Ran across Phil from Nefertari’s parents. Small World
The little Exuma of the Abacos. Just missed @Finding.Cloud @therese @cody and Rhys by a couple minutes. They sailed out of the harbor as we were approaching. Cool to see those three boats together headed west. Met some great new friends for a beach fire and cook.
Never seen so many boats headed north at once. So few weather windows this year, with the calm weather coming Sunday/ Monday it’ll be a party crossing the Gulf Stream. Some rollers in Whale Cay Cut on a 5ft forecast. Nothing breaking.
Finally got a some waves in Hope Town. What a great community to surf with @Finding.Cloud and @mikerybas and EJ (android) as the sun was rising.
Water run and stop by firefly. It’s been a strange year sitting in the harbor pretty much full time. With kids schedules and work schedules and everything between we’ve been sitting on this mooring. Great to spin the props and use the boat a little. Tracking did not pick back up after departing Firefly.
Paddled the boys to Tahiti Beach for a lunch break and swim. 💕
Last trip to Little Harbor for the year. Detoured to the creeks for some rays and turtles. So much life back in these mangroves.

Beverage and a some boomers. Watching some lightening in the distance. Testing the improved tracking from the latest build. Anyone else willing to help us do strategic tracking testing? Altering your settings and some other variables. Shoot me or @bri a message and we’ll get you a list of scenarios. This one was easy. Step 1) Get cold beverage Step 2) Adjust settings in iOS for the specific test Step 3) go for a boat ride Step 4) shake to send the devs the track with some details Step 5) get another cold beverage Who’s in???
A good (no jumps) track test run just on the N bound leg. Will do a N to S to N tomorrow and try to replicate the weird jumps.
I’ll be honest… I spent about 7 years never holding a fish for a photo. I’m so grateful for creatures who’s death gives us life, and holding their bodies as trophies just hit me wrong. I always did it for 10 years before, and never judged anyone that did, it just broke my heart a little to do it myself. But now that Alby is getting into diving, re-energizing my desire to dive seriously again, that has all changed. The fish are still not trophies, but they are all memories with the people we dive with. And that deserves a picture. I’m excited to make Sea People a part of my memories with my son. To look back on, to remember the fish, the spots, and the moments I know I’ll never be able to replace. Excited to see everyone else’s life moments here too!

Another 6am kids wake up and the ocean showing you who’s in charge. Zero wahoo, another unexpected grouper??? 40lbs on the hand line for a morning workout 🏋️♀️ This one went back to the bottom to live another day.
Lobsters and finding a crew at Tahiti. No connectivity test. Wifi toggled off in iOS settings and cellular data off. All was well minus the strange fix jump at on the way back. Phone off is reason for crossing the N end of the island. But fix in photo circled is incorrect.
Side by side track test with Brian. Cellular tracking with IOS wifi toggle setting on. One track jump to shore that was not real.
Stop tracking without posting test. Pulling track from server via the Draw Track flow. Incredible option but it’s definitely hard to pull a single day from the entire track history either the sliders. Overlapping track lines also makes it hard to ensure you are selecting today. Showing dates / times in parallel either the sliders would be ideal. Times definitely not correct on the segment either. Left the harbor to go south about 11:30am, returned 3ish.
New tracking test with a 3 hr auto pause and a phone battery death. All worked very well. 👏 to the devs! Now time to fix my steering
But we are here. After 7 hours leaning into the emergency tiller, a stop at Great Sale for a fix that lasted all but an hour. Beer taste better after a shit day
Less than ideal forecast. Would have been a great day to cross for bahamas today but didn’t make it off the dock until noon. Buuuuut for all you Abaco alphas, we come bearing a gift. A massive ice maker! 🍻 to free ice!

Never sucks to cover the latitude of Coinjock to FL at 70mph.
Never sucks to cross the gulf stream in 10 minutes. Strange that I had tracking points I saw in Miami and it tracked me all the way on my drive home from CLT, but it simplified to the route you see. Also strange random track point in Andros, but that should be ignored cause it’s not a real test case being in a plane. The algorithm choosing to ignore when tracking picked back up in MIA and then a 1.5hr drive from CLT is odd.
Trying to catch the tracker jumping shoreside. Didn’t do it. But some other curious findings. Screen recording of entire track to share.
Wifi theory debunked. Two random stray tack points in different locations today. Three points with the arrow are totally random points that were not part of the day.
First 10 mins tracked. Next 4 hours didn’t. See bug report
Stacking into boat happened fast and updated fast when re- opening app and explore screen. Google maps also run at the same time. Phone plugged into CarPlay. All perfect minus my crew location freezing half way through. Bug submitted

My tracking is too cluttered to get a pin dropped for the update I want to give. Can’t figure out where to drop pin. Are we considering sliders back on past time or distance and a pin that moves? Even with a quieter map, if you criss cross yourself a bunch of times, it’s gonna be tough.
Accidental run, but strange tracking
Not on the sea, but underway with a boat. Bringing home a souvenir for the kids. lots of crashing today when trip tracking. maybe it was a carplay issue?
don’t know how I forgot to record this. too much going on. But two things. 1) I was so mad I didn’t record. which is the emotion we want to evoke. 2) there were 25 of our students coming off the water from morning sails that were begging instructors to sign their logbooks…. and those people would definitely be running sea people to log their time!!!
