The first day we had to mostly motor through squalls as we rounded Jamaica. About halfway to the west coast, we had our coolant pump bearing fail on us which was pretty fun. Luckily I had hung onto an old one that was starting to weep so the next day we cleaned her up and did our best to make new gaskets to put it all back together. Alas, they did not hold… going to need to spend a little more TLC on this one. The next day the wind filled in and we were able to send it with following seas on and off with main + whomper to sometimes just the ol’ whomp by her lonesome when we had to go directly downwind. We had several groups of swallows visit us along the way. The first guy died in the boat, probably because we didn’t realize he was hunting for water… poor dude. We gave Sheryl (or Shane) a proper burial at sea 🪦. All in all the spinnaker got one hell of a workout and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Stoked to explore this island with our buddy boaters, @SV_Chief and @camilledegabrielle 🥾

The Raggeds did not disappoint… cruised in with buddy boaters @SV_Chief and @camilledegabrielle and were blown away by the amount of fish/ life in general at the reef. The stay was short but we had an extremely tight weather window to get to Great Inagua. Had a great sail to Inagua, never more than 3nm from SV Chief, crazy. That’s while we were both sailing from 6 to 10 kts. We’ll chill here until a window opens up to start our trip through the Windward Passage to Jamaica 🇯🇲

The squad went full-on Deadliest Catch mode with plans of reeling in more fish than a cruising boat has any business catching in a single afternoon. Unfortunately, after blowing the entire budget on Keystone Lights, Bloody Marys, and an irresponsible amount of taco dip, there was nothing left for live bait. Live bait was exactly what these fish demanded. Ketch and Camille pulled out every trick in the book but the fish just weren’t buying it. We didn’t land any monsters out there but a good time was had. Snail trail had the lead to start, Lost lost a tube at the start 🤦‍♀️ and I had to rip in Cannoli to get it back. About halfway through we managed to pass the snail trail and they never recovered. We have suspicions that they let us win :/. Is that true, snails?! It was pretty sporty out there, today!

No bueno. Beneteau style washer did a fair bit of chewing into the prop. I’m guessing the key wasn’t a solid fit and the slop allowed the washer to eventually work its way through the prop. It began unthreading itself enough for the key to slide out. Probably wouldn’t have happened if the washer was properly bent down into the key hole. Fantastic. Think I should carve a new divot into the prop to lock in the new washer? When I get hauled in Guatemala I’ll likely just drill a couple of holes through the nut and shaft and toss in some cotter pins.

Floatchella was amazing this year! Met so many rad cruisers that I’ll be staying in touch with from now on. Today it seemed everyone thought it was a good call to head south so we reluctantly followed like sheep. Plowing into waves at 7.5 kts is painful, so we reefed Lost to the max and worked our way down slowly. Plan to stay in Pipe creek for a few days kiteboarding if anyone wants to join.

Had an extra long stop in Fort Pierce this year to visit with good friends @Legacy. They made the mistake of giving us an address to ship parts, something like they’ll likely never do again. Before leaving, Pam made her famous Thanksgiving casserole and sent me off with about 20 lbs of it. Love you guys and can’t wait to link up again soon. Keep hitting ‘em straight out there ⛳️. Worked my way down the coast yesterday to West Palm Beach for a better angle to cross the stream. This morning I did a quick dive to scrape the scum and wake myself up and then shot out for the Bahamas Bank. Planning to check in at Green Turtle Cay and will go through the night if I can make it. If not, plenty of islands to anchor off of. I’m less than three miles from the bank and it feels good 🙌🏼. A LOT to be thankful for this year.

Calmest crossing I’ve ever had. All last night there wasn’t a lick of wind but I decided to drop anchor off Great Sale after hearing @Regenero is on his way to Green Turtle, shooting for Monday! Their customs/ immigration office isn’t open until then so I’ll be bobbing around through the weekend. Spent most of today painting the whaler, a job I thought would be quick for some reason. It wasn’t, and I’m about halfway done. Got to Spanish Cay in time for an amazing sunset. It’s one big magic show out here, you never get used to it 🙌🏼

We’d also really like to thank the fisherman for dropping his trap right on our path. We made it through a summer in Maine only to catch a trap off the coast of FL… getting into the Fort Pierce inlet on one engine with my back to this swell is going to be real fun. Wish us luck.

Almost to the clear stuff and we’re stoked! Trip down was mostly uneventful. Had almost 3 really good days of sailing with 15 knots on the beam. Our last day was a sloppy one but mostly due to the squalls. We must have changed reefing points 10 times yesterday alone. Freed the rudder this morning. The line was knotted and wrapped around the keel and rudder. Somehow it didn’t have any affect on steering.

The wind kicked in just as we rounded the Frying Pan Shoals. It’s super light but that’s alright. We’ll be able snooze well out here. The big tradeoff. 8-10 knots of wind, moving anywhere from 4-5 knots. If the weather shifts easterly late Friday, we’ll likely keep on going down the Florida coast to Fort Pierce. Anyone else love leaving port not knowing where or when you’ll stop?

Glassy all day today out there. Smelled some diesel fumes after anchoring in Deltaville to find two really badly leaking injectors off the pump. First three injectors had really clean seals but I swapped anyhow (fuel pump was rebuilt in July). Will get back in there tomorrow morning to check the 4th. Here’s to no chipped paint falling in… 🤞 If we can get it sorted quickly, the weather looks good for a motor sail to Hatteras tomorrow and then a good sail westerly on the inside of the Gulf for the next several days.

No matter how tight we get the lines to the mooring, we’re scary close to rocks. Luckily it drops off quick from the shoreline but still. Saw a couple reviews from boats up to 46’ but not sure id recommend it. If there were rough weather in our future, we’d leave and risk the lobster buoys. There isn’t another anchorage we can get to before sunset so here we’ll stay. Who needs sleep anyhow?

In love with these islands of granite 🦭

When in doubt, hit it with a mallet... In between squalls, about 5 hours before Debby hit the coast, we attempted to lift anchor and move closer to the Lee shore. With all but 25’ of chain up the windlass started tripping the breaker in both up and down positions. Fantastic. We manually let the chain back out and said a prayer to Poseidon. The winds weren’t nearly what they predicted and it was a smooth night. 🔱 Today we dismantled the windlass not sure what we’d find. Bearings seemed solid. Took the motor cover off to find a little corrosion. Gave her a few whacks and she started purring like a kitten. Gotta love it when no parts are needed 🙌🏼. We’ll deal with the brushes another day. Having issues with your windlass? Give @Erin and I a call. Will whack for beers 🍻🔨

Not sure what I saw on Navionics last I checked but I was convinced there was a low clearance power line or fixed bridge. Definitely not the case and glad we could cut through and save some time. The current rrrrrips so make sure you’ve timed the tides right. We saw 4 knots of current. It was a motor sail day with little to no wind until the afternoon. The ol’ iron sails got the job done. Arrived just in time for that dense NE fog to roll in 🌫️

Made it to Ocean City, MD before this next front. Planning to stop for the day and shoot back out as the wind clocks around. Got really lucky with a couple of squalls out there that died once the system hit the water. Apparently you should not follow the markers to the anchorage south of the inlet. Lots of shifting sand and markers are definitely not in place. After bumping ground we noticed locals ignoring them haha. Heading back out on Friday night 🗽

The temp in NC has been brrrrrrutal. 90s during the day high 70s at night and 4000% humidity. It was a lumpy start to the trip but has calmed down to the point we need to rely on iron muscle. This one’s for you, diesel engine guru’s. I have a Yanmar 4jh3e that’s been overheating and overflowing coolant from the expansion tank. Here’s what I’ve replaced/ serviced: -raw water impeller -freshwater/ coolant pump -coolant pump t-stat -heat exchanger cap -removed and cleaned heat exchanger (did not pressure test) -flushed and burped coolant through system -exhaust elbow removed/ cleaned -exhaust hose replaced (partially collapsed) Am I missing something aside from this being a head gasket? No obvious contamination in oil or coolant.
